Islamabad, Jul 8 (PTI) For the first time, Pakistan President Asif Ali
Zardari admitted that militants and extremists were "created and
nurtured" in the country as a policy to achieve some short-term
tactical objectives…."Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a
candid admission of the realities," Zardari said. "The terrorists of
today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they
began to haunt us as well," he added.

NEW DELHI: The first university for peace and sustainable development
in South Asia could be set up in Delhi if India's proposal to the
UNESCO is accepted. UNESCO will be a partner in the establishment of
this institution which is proposed to be a top-grade centre of studies
in the areas of peace, development and conflict resolution…

ISLAMABAD: Experts here at a workshop on Tuesday stressed the need for
the establishment of the first agriculture e-chamber, besides
utilising information and communication technologies to promote the
agriculture sector in the region. A proposal to this effect was made
during the second day of the three-day regional SAARC workshop on
“Role of Media for Accelerating Agricultural Growth in SAARC
Countries: Experiences and Lessons from South Asia,” which started
here at a local hotel on July 6…

COLOMBO: Over 800 former LTTE combatants and 12000 IDPs in Jaffna are
to be provided with a new lease of life with training in technical
skills provided by the Technical Training Colleges situated in various
parts of the country. The programme conducted by the Ministry of
Justice is aimed at rehabilitating and re-integrating former LTTE
combatants by providing them with the skills and technical knowledge

CHENNAI: Sri Lanka deeply values the Rs 500 crore pledged by India and
the Rs 25 crore granted by Tamil Nadu for the rehabilitation of
Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in government transit facilities, C
Romesh Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, said here
on Tuesday…. Mr Jayasinghe said India’s bilateral relationship with
Sri Lanka, which had never been hostage to the Tamils situation, could
be strengthened even further with the end to the military conflict…

KATHMANDU: India and Nepal have agreed to hold the much-delayed Power
Exchange Committee meeting in the first week of August. The meeting
will decide how the two sides will utilize the 30 MW additional power
supply from India. The Indian government agreed to provide the
additional 30 MW of power to Nepal, as requested by the government of
Nepal in April when the country was facing acute power shortage…
