DHAKA: Ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India next
month, eminent personalities yesterday hoped for a 'breakthrough' in
relations between Bangladesh and India. They also suggested that the
ties between the two countries could be a model for bilateral
relationship in South Asia. The views came at a discussion marking the
Victory Day at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, where the
speakers, including journalists, parliamentarians, diplomats and war
veterans, recalled the contribution of the freedom fighters…

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP):…“I will appeal the Ulema and Mashaikh at this
critical juncture, when this conference is being held, to adopt a
joint strategy for the elimination of terrorism and sectarianism.
Because it is vital for the security of Pakistan”, the President Asif
Ali Zardari said in a message on the occasion of 30th International
Hussainia Conference, 2009 being held on Thursday. The President said
the Karbala tragedy is such a chapter of not only the Islamic but the
world history which has left its irremovable marks on humanity…
*India: Women's reservation bill gets nod from committee, Rediff News,

A parliamentary standing committee has cleared the bill seeking
amendment in the Constitution to enable women's reservation in the Lok
Sabha. The committee has, without suggesting major changes, sought an
early enactment of the bill, which was first tabled in the Rajya Sabha
in May 2008…

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday
administered oath to Justice (Retd) Rana Bhagwandas as Chairman
Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).The oath-taking ceremony held
here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr was attended among others by Chairman Senate,
Chief Election Commissioner, some Federal ministers, ministers of
state, Parliamentarians, and senior government officials.
