Ajmer, Dec 20: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today
said the situation had rapidly improved in his State. Talking to
reporters after performing ziyarat at the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin
Hasan Chisti’s durgah here, Abdullah said "Kashmir has now recovered
from the brunt of terrorism and the situation is returning to normal.
Accordingly, around 30,000 armymen have been sent back from the
State"…

Rajouri, Dec 20: Terming self-rule as a realistic and practical
solution of vexed Kashmir dispute, former chief minister and Patron of

Srinagar, Dec 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the
recently framed rules by the State High Court wherein the HC judges
shall have to dispose off the writ of the habeas corpus particularly
the petitions challenging the detention under Public Safety Act (PSA)
within 15 days…

CHAKAN DA BAGH (loc): Till recently the trade on this route was a big
success story. But the past few weeks have seen a significant slump,
as it went down to a little over Rs.1.5 crore from a whopping Rs. 8
crore at one point of time. The reason — Pakistan has banned export of
moong dal (pulses) which proved to be a boon to trade. Now the
merchants on this side have threatened to suspend the trade if moong
dal and other items are not allowed…

Pakistan has denied visa to People's Democratic Party president
Mehbooba Mufti for attending a conference to be held in Islamabad
[ Images ] from Monday. No official reason was given for declining the
visa to Mehbooba whose PDP is the main opposition party in Jammu and
Kashmir [ Images ]. However, the PDP head said the security situation
in Pakistan could be the reason for her not being considered for the
visa. Mehbooba was to attend a three-day conference to be organised by
the Sustainable Development Policy Institute of Islamabad…

Srinagar, Dec 20: With the onset of Chilla Kalan, harshest 40 day
period of winter, there is less possibility of Valley experiencing
heavy snowfall in near future, according to weather men. Director
Metrological department, Sonum Lotus said the cold wave conditions in
Valley may increase in the coming days…
