BHUBANESWAR: Union minister of agriculture Sharad Pawar on Sunday laid
the foundation of the International Centre for FMD at Arugul, about 30
km from here. This centre will greatly benefit the livestock owners,
scientists, and consumers of the entire SAARC countries to combat this
endemic. Foot and mouth disease (FMD), though not fatal among animals,
can cause a direct economic loss of around Rs 20,000 crore to the
livestock sector each year. The state-of-the-art centre will come up
in 100 acres of land provided by the state government in two years'
time. The Centre has sanctioned around Rs 45 crores during Eleventh
Five Year plan period…

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress and the main
opposition UCPN (Maoist) have finally agreed to resume the
parliamentary proceedings that have been continuously disrupted by the
Maoist lawmakers. As per the agreement, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar
Nepal in his speech to the parliament would include the terms
"President" and "Chief of Army Staff" and make a commitment to address
the Maoist demand for "civilian supremacy" after holding consultations
with other political parties, while the Maoists would allow the
resumption of the House meetings…

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society has agreed to distribute the
goods sent by the Tamil Diaspora from UK and France in the Captain Ali
ship among the Vanni displaced persons in welfare camps in Vavuniya.
The Director General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Neville
Nanayakkara said that they had agreed to distribute the goods
following a request made by the Indian Red Cross Society through the
Indian Government. He said that their willingness to distribute the
goods had been conveyed to the Indian Red Cross Society…
