NEW DELHI, Oct 2: In a marked shift in its policy, Pakistan has
invited India to work alongside in Afghanistan to rebuild the war-
ravaged country to which New Delhi has agreed. A news agency Asia
News International (ANI) quoted Indian External Affairs Minister S. M.
Krishna stating that “he was pleasantly surprised by Pakistan’s
suggestion, and has expressed India’s willingness to work together for
rebuilding Afghanistan”…

VATICAN, Oct 01 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday held
meeting with Pope Benedict-XVI here and discussed matters pertaining
to foster interfaith harmony and tolerance. During the meeting, the
President said that the elected government in Pakistan was committed
to promote interfaith harmony and tolerance that was why it had
pioneered a resolution in the UN calling for interfaith harmony….The
President said all the stakeholders and political forces will be
consulted to check and stop the misuse of existing blasphemy laws by
those having extremist mindset…

NEW DELHI: The Centre is warming up for talks with the moderate
separatist groups of Jammu and Kashmir, after a gap of four years, and
dates are being worked out for a meeting with them in Delhi. Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh, who led the talks with them in May and
September 2005 has, however, chosen to assign the task of engaging
them in further talks to Home Minister P Chidambaram…

New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) The process to set up 5000 rural courts across
the country that would speed up disposal of cases began today with the
Law Ministry issuing a notification to this effect on the occasion of
Gandhi Jayanti. Now, the state governments will initiate a process to
set up the rural courts. By the next fiscal, the Central government
plans to set up 200 such courts. The number is expected to reach its
target of 500 courts in three years…

More than 150 Indian Army [ Images ] officers along with their
families today crossed the Line of Actual Control at Bum La in Tawang
district in Arunachal Pradesh to join the Chinese Army in celebrating
its 60th National Day. A Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) was held on
the occasion between officials of the two Armies in a friendly
ambience that belied the recent tension between the two countries over
age-old border disputes. Sources said the Chinese Border troops
located opposite the Kameng Sector in Arunachal Pradesh frontier
invited their Indian counterparts to join them in their celebrations…
