great overview of Ann Arbor City wiki - http://arborwiki.org/city/Information_Architecture_Analysis

At the moment, there is automated spam attacking the site for the last
two days. We need to do something about that. maybe add simple
captcha - which gives a math problem like: what does 18 - 6 =___
or 3 + 4 = ___

Mark, thanks for the heads-up. I assume you mean the portlandwiki.org site?

Kotra installed exaclty the captcha you describe on porltandwiki.org last spring -- if memory serves, it took an hour or so to research and install it, and it seems to have kept things pretty calm over there.

Anybody want to volunteer to get the captcha installed? It would need to be somebody pretty well known to our crew, as it requires pretty high level access to the site..but it's not extrordinarily technical, and it would be a great service to the site!

Hi Pete, yep you can assume that I meant PortlandWiki.org - as I was talking about a city wiki in the first part of the message.

I am assuming you are talking about PDX.Wiki.org and Koltra installing the captcha?

Who has access to the guts of the wiki- is it only our WikiMaster Dave :-)

All done. I used the default settings (only is triggered by editors
adding URLs, creating accounts, and failing a login; is not triggered
at all by sysops [admins, bureaucrats, etc] and bots). I can change
these. Full details here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit#ConfirmEdit_Installation
