Redis Alternative?

Sometime in the last couple of months, there was a talk given about concurrency, and there was an alternative to redis that was was mentioned.
What was it?  Does anyone remember the details?

An alternative to Redis for what use? Caching, queuing, ...?

"Thredis" seems to be threaded Redis, but I've never tried it (plain Redis is fast enough for me):
