Hey all,

I'm going to be moving to DC for six months starting in November, and
I will not be able to manage the day-to-day operation of the space.
We're looking for someone who'd like to be executive director.

Essentially, this means you are the final word in day-to-day
operations of the space, though it's expected that you rarely have to
make a decision - most things are left to a do-ocratcy of the members.
You'd collect dues and donations, and pay the rent (our only monthly
bill). Other than filing paperwork with the state (which you could do
if you wanted, but I can do), you'd run the organization.

This needs to be someone responsible enough to do the job.
Preferably, someone who may be able to make up a rent shortfall - I
and some others will still help with major chunks of the rent, but
right now I pay about $200 out of pocket each month. It also be great
if you had a vision for the space - some passion to do something with
it and make it better.

If no one is found by November, other options, such as temporarily
shutting down the silo, will need to be looked at. If you have any
questions, feel free to respond on or off list.

Aside from a couple outings around the holidays I'm back in town and have always wanted to get more involved. If you'd like to talk more shoot me an off-list email.

Let me get back to you. I would be very interested, but may be going to Eugene this winter. If I don't end up going to Eugene then I would be more than happy to manage things until April. One thing I would be interested in doing is evaluating what interest there is and the viability of having members take a larger role in management rather than just a single individual. I would also be interested in making everything relating to the structure and operations of BrainSilo (legal and corporate documentation, revenue, expenses, etc) available and easily accessible for all members to see.

Also if the community has interest I think it would be worthwhile to work with members to draft a community set of bylaws. If anyone has experience with open source communities I'm curious what you think about using the same principles, using a general set of community bylaws/standards to develop general rules for the space, working with others, community decision making and management tools, etc. I think this would also be very beneficial for new members as they could be given a welcoming packet of sorts which could also outline explicit rules for using and working with others in the space rather than the kind of implied guidelines that exist at the moment.

Anyways, I'm still not even 100% sure yet where I'm going to be this winter...so, I'll get back to you.

How is rent being paid now? If it's not too complicated, I can make
sure that rent gets paid. I suck at checks, and I don't always have
reliable transportation, so those are the only blockers that I
foresee. I don't necessarily want to commit to always being there for
open house on Thursday since I am already committed to opening for the
Wednesday event.

Loki, are you going to be there on Thursday? Maybe we can all meet up
and discuss the situation then.

I hope by now somebody's stepped up?  Whoever's in charge for the next few months, let me know if you need help with anything.
