Do we want to apply?  It sounds like it's free if we're accepted, and it'd be great promo for us. On the other hand, while we promote and use open source software, I'm not sure it's "central" to us.  Look it over, give me some opinions:

If so, I can man the booth on the 23th,25th, and the 26th. I'll request the other 2 days, but no guarantees. we'll need things like stickers and candy, and coffee or something... any one have a Monday and a Wednesday to offer?

As a note, if we decide to do a booth, I'll throw down for a few hundred stickers and flyers - we already have the designs on the wiki (though the flyers could use a face-lift).

The prices suck here, but I talked to Cravedog (http://www.cravedog.com/)
They have a minimum order on stickers and such.

Up till now we've always used No Limit stickers on Alberta for stickers, and Staples for flyers.  Local, cheap, fast (even same day in some cases).
If we wanted to look into some shirts, we could - I know some local places, including Cravedog, that are reasonably priced - but it would still be quite spendy.

Sticker proofs (they are die-cut - we posted pictures somewhere a while back as well, but I'd have to dig):

So it says there that its $200 for 1000 2x4 stickers, I wonder if any one has a sticker person who can make them for half that? I'll keep my eyes open, I'd say we need them even if OSCON isn't the right one, there will be other cons ahead. registration ends in 3 days.

Heyyyyy guys

I know you're not sure if OSCON is the right place for you, but I think you'll be fantastic. With as boring as the booths are there (just big companies marketing their cloud solutions) any of the user group booths -- particularly ones with activities -- go really well. Last year, there was a group demoing some microcontroller stuff they had been working on (one guy got Lua running on an arduino…) and they had people there all day asking questions! :)

I imagine if you guys just brought a Cupcake, Eggbot or the like, you'd have people visiting your booth all day. Plus, what a great chance to show off original projects you're working on to people who aren't normally exposed to hacker/maker culture.

OSCONNNNN!  What kind of projects would you show off?  I have some hardware projects which are/could be "open source": power supplies, cnc machine electronics/software, microcontroller breakout boards, motor controllers, etc.  And if it's free, I can man a booth for a day or two during Oscon.

Sticker's look great.   From times I have bought stickers, $200 for 1000 2x4 seems like a good price.

Let's hope somebody at OSCON has Vuvuzela's again.

Well remember despite not being "open source" as in not having the source available, the heart of any hackerspace as a community education and enrichment facility (whether you think of yourselves as that or not) is the same concept of sharing innovation that powers the FOSS community. Sharing what you know with others is the essence open education, and that's actually the message I'm kicking off the open education track there with! ;)

So, anything you've built or play with for shits and giggles and are willing to tell someone something they don't know about it belongs there. (although I'd avoid fire and/or things that produce shrapnel) :)

So, it looks like OSCON is about more than just open source software, but open source in general right? If so I know a guy out in Hillsboro who might be interested as he has been working on an open source spectrophotometer for quite some time? I actually think he may have posted on this group a few times. Here's the project: http://www.openspectrometer.com/ - would this be something that is OSCONable?

Also, I saw someone mentioned shirts. My roommate is really into screen printing and making shirts. How many shirts would you be looking for and at what price per shirt. I can see if he is interested.

At current, I found a deal for 24 for about $150, but that deal is for one design I think. it would be nice to have shirts for members, it would also be nice to have a few designs. show this to your friend to gain perspective: http://www.zazzle.com/silobeta

Joe says he can do about $10/shirt (includes shirt and the print). He says the color doesn't come out too well with the ink he uses, but the black design ones would be easy for him to do. If your thinking of any other designs you can send them to me (or just post them here) and I'm sure he would be able to do screen prints with them. How many shirts are you thinking?

I can drop $30 next Thursday. Any one else in on it?

If you guys get a booth and if by July a prototype of OpenSpectrometer (OpenSpectrometer.com) is ready can it be shown at the BrainSilo booth?

The deadline is today I think, if so, I'll help show it on the days that I man the booth. As long as it doesn't make fire, get blood on the carpet or make us do paperwork.

Hey openSpectrometer.com is my project, I still need to get a board layed out and fabbed... i've got a schematic drawn in eescema (kicad) but need help getting a netlist and PCB laid out.

Will anyone be around on Sunday when I show up for the DIYbio mud battery that knows KiCad?

So Richard you mentioned a deadline, does that mean BrainSilo has a booth, etc?

I've applied (before the deadline) on behalf of BrainSilo - and yes, I'm sure you could demo an open source spectrophotometer if you had such a thing.

So, did we hear anything about this?  I thought I saw something that said that we were going to have a booth.  Do we know any more details about this?  Seeing as how OSCON started yesterday, and I think the booth area opens up tomorrow.

I tweeted about it, but forgot to mention it on the list.  They declined to give us space, no explanation given.

You can get a free OSCON pass by using the code "OPENSOURCE".  The free pass includes not just the expo, but also a bunch of parties and other stuff.
See http://www.oscon.com/oscon2013/public/content/expo-hall  for full info. (via Wm)
