All,

It seems that yesterday (2010-12-28) around 4:47pm someone took the
main server (sitting up in the loft). The webcam didn't capture who
it was. Any info helpful - it had been heavily upgraded from what it
was when it was donated, and was configured to run the local network.

That was me, I was gonna write to the list today but forgot (just moved down to SF). I own that server and originally set it up in the loft. Didn't realize it was in active use or that it had been upgraded, sorry. I can send back any foreign components if you wish.

Max,

You had explicitly told multiple people you were donating that server
to the space, hence why it was set up in the loft. If you had wanted
it back, that's one thing - but to simply take it without talking to
me, or any of the other board members, is unconscionable. There are,
and have been, many other servers here we could have used instead,
given the opportunity to do so.

We'll follow up on this off-list, after I've spoken to the other board members.

Max,

"drama" started when you took the server that runs the webcam, manages
the RFID and door systems, hosts music and video media for the
projector, allows network booting of operating systems, and allows
remote access to the space. The system you took was directly hooked
up to both the webcam and RFID controller via USB - how you "didn't
notice" that is beyond me.

Per both in person conversations and an email you wrote Tue, Jan 12,
2010 at 11:01 AM to the list, the system you were building was
intended to be the media server for the "chill-room", and was intended
to be a donation. Since you built the system the first time around,
others have upgraded the drives and configured it to be used for many
things around the space.

While I do understand it was a last minute issue for you, there is
simply no excuse for not calling or emailing me, another board member,
or at least an involved member (you have not even emailed the list for
about 8 months - and I've not seen you at any silo meeting for about
the same amount of time).

I've not had a chance to talk to the other board members yet, but
please assume that at the very least you will need to return any hard
drives that are in the system.

Quick question: What is the current status on access to the 'silo? Was the keypad connected through the server?

I was planning to head over around 6pm tonight, and am wondering if I'll have trouble getting in.

The server configured they keypad hardware, but the keypad hardware
still works without it. You should have no trouble getting in.

On another note, as soon as my order of RFID cards gets in, the keypad
will be disabled, and the only access will be via the RFID reader.

Same code? I haven't been there in a month.

it hasn't changed in a couple months, so yes.
