Here's an opportunity to challenge your lock picking skills and put some
beer money in your pocket. My wife and I have tried several times over
the past few years to have keys duplicated for our sidewalk locking
mailbox, but none of the shops seemed to have the right key blank. Of
course, the inevitable happened: we misplaced the last key for it and
can no longer access our mail. I will pay someone $50 for opening it
without damaging the lock or the mailbox(nothing for trying and
failing). The lock is a Eurolocks brand and the key looks just like a
Yakima roofrack key and is double sided. I will be available today &
tomorrow for most of the morning hours & early afternoon. Please
contact me off-list and I will post back to the list when the challenge
has been met & the offer is no longer valid.

Thanks!

Like this thing you say?

Looks like a pretty standard wafer lock, so this is definitely in the realm of possibility.  I assume whoever accepts the challenge would need to travel out to your place?  What part of town is it in?  Is it easily accessible via trimet?

I also highly recommend sending this challenge out to the Portland TOOOL chapter, since this is right up their alley.

Yes, that is exactly what the key looked like.  My house is in NE Portland, near 24th & Ainsworth. The #9 bus gets within 3 blocks as it travels down 27th Ave.  I'll try TOOOL  if no one on this list is able/interested.  Thought I'd try here first since I follow the list and know that there are a number of members that like to play with tumblers.

The mailbox has been opened. My wife was getting very anxious at the
thought of overdue bills, so I went online & read up on how to drill out
locks. Armed with drill, drill bits goggles, and a hefty screwdriver,
it took all of 10 minutes to get it open. Tomorrow I'll go in search of
a new lock.

In the words of Red Green, "If women don't find you handsome, they
should at least find you handy."

Thanks, all.
