Hi, I hope this is not too off-topic.

The Perl Foundation is participating in the Google Summer of Code
(GSoC) this year. Google pays students $4500 to work on an Open
Source project for three months over the summer. We're looking for
students to work on projects involving Perl 5, Perl 6, Parrot and
Pugs. Pugs is an implementation of Perl 6 written in Haskell.

Yes, get paid to write Haskell this summer.

You can learn more about Pugs here:
http://pugscode.org/

Pugs has a list of projects ideas:
http://dev.pugscode.org/wiki/SummerOfCodeIdeas

Please feel free to come up with your own projects. Don't be shy, we
have gotten very, very few proposals and we have mentors available to
help you flesh out an idea into a proposal and answer your questions.
We have far more mentors than students this year.

The deadline for proposals is **>>Monday<<**. Sorry for the late
notice.

And instructions for submitting a proposal are here:
http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?gsoc2008_getting_started

The FAQ about GSoC is here:
http://code.google.com/opensource/gsoc/2008/faqs.html

Google defines a "student" as:
An individual enrolled in or accepted into an accredited institution
including colleges, universities, masters programs, PhD programs and
undergraduate programs. Computer Science does not need to be your
field of study. You may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time
student.

Questions? Help can be found on IRC.

About Pugs: irc.freenode.net #perl6

Or feel free to ask me.

Thank you,
Michael Schwern
