- Bart talked about solving Project Euler problems in Haskell
(http://projecteuler.net/)
- This led to a brief discussion of space leaks in Haskell; I
presented my favorite example (which I didn't come up with) that
illustrates why reasoning about space usage in Haskell is hard:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Haskell/Haskell_Performance#Controlling_Space
and then look at "Tricky space leak example"
- I talked about the ICFP contest problem (http://icfpcontest.org/)
- We tried to arrive at a date/place for the gathering during OSCON,
but failed to achieve consensus, and agreed that we would discuss this
on the mailing list pretty soon.
- The idea was floated of asking people at Galois whether they would
be interested in hosting a future pdxfunc meeting, and of whether a
downtown location would be preferable to the current SE location (I
think Cubespace is a fine location, but others may have different
opinions.) Galois people may feel free to chime in, though I'm not
sure whether they're up for letting us run around in their office
after hours.
- We adjourned to the pub, where Bart attempted to convince Igal that
OO languages are inherently a pile of fail, and I played devil's
advocate for both sides.
Cheers,
Tim

Err... isn't the Tuesday Evening Extravaganza on, well, Tuesday
evening??

Anyone hanging around Haskell Cafe and such have an idea of expected
headcount if we announce this?
Anyone have a suggestion of a venue?

Well, it's OSCON. There will be no time when there's not 8 other
events going on at the same time.
Early dinner on Tues is fine, just remember transit times, and that
the ballroom gets packed for the TEE pretty quickly.

Francesco Cesarini, who is giving the Erlang tutorial may join us, but
I need to give him details.

Tuesday dinner starting at 5pm seemed to be the best fit in terms of
avoiding scheduling conflicts.
Produce Row seems the best fit that I know of, but requires a 10-15
minute walk and may be hard for out-of-towners to find.
Other suggestions are very welcome.

Does 5pm, Tuesday at Old Town Pizza work for the rest of you?
Can someone please confirm whether it's available and make reservation?
If the room costs money, we'll just ask everyone that shows up to pitch
in to cover it.
I'd do this myself, but I'm overwhelmed with FOSCON work (pdxfoscon.org).

(1) Tuesday at 5pm is usually empty enough to accomodate ~12 folks walking in.
(2) or, a reservation can be made which carries with it a single tab
and an automatic 18% gratuity.

Let's just meet up there. If someone wants to do a reservation, they're
welcome to do so but please be sure to post to the list so everyone
knows to bring cash to pay you back for the single tab.
See you there.
