Our start up is actively looking for a good .NET Cloud hosting environment.  We have been looking at a stack of Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.  We are keen about using Azure.
We have looked at EasyStreet.  Any suggestions from anyone

I’m digging Amazon EC2. Costs about the same as Azure, waaaaayyyy easier to deal with

I'd strongly suggest taking a look at the following:

Unless you are tied to Azure, getting paid by MS to use it, or working closely with them I would check out alternatives.
As for deployment speed, nothing will beat AppHarbor for the .NET world right now, and nobody can beat the automation and flexibility of AWS.
For a quick 4 minute demo of deployment on AppHarbor check out this video:  http://compositecode.com/2011/04/03/deploying-asp-net-mvc-3-razor-web-app-to-appharbor-4-minutes/

Also AppHarbor provides one click deployment for couchdb, mongodb, redis, and a host of other options.  Simply put, if you want options, power, speed, and serious capabilities check out one of those two. They're top bar for sure.  :)

If you have any specific questions or information you'd like to discuss I'd be more than happy to elaborate or consult if you'd like.

I'm a fan of appharbor myself.  You deploy via a git push which triggers execution of unit tests and if they pass that version of your repo/app gets deployed automatically.  You can easily rollback to a previous version from their web admin.  They just added some nice addons as well.   Things like various nosql options to email processing services.

It is basically Heroku for .NET.

Has anyone signed up for the free usage tier on aws? http://aws.amazon.com/free/

This seems like a great thing to get started. I was going to jump on
it to try it out and was wondering if anyone else has signed up for
this and if they ran into any snags?

Works great for me, but keep in mind it's just a Linux micro instance, not windows.

I actually use the free tier on a regular basis.  If you actually want a "free tier" though go get an account with AppHarbor. For one app + a small DB it is free.

If you want to stay within the resource level of a free tier with AWS you will need to use Linux, which does provide you a Mono + .NET option.  I believe there are even some ready to roll AMI/EBS images for EC2 to get rolling in just a few minutes, but I'd have to check to confirm.

Either way though, if you have to use Windows, AWS can be pretty cheap. If you intend to host for a long time a reserved instance can be purchased for about ~$10 bucks a month or so (of course you have to pay for X years though).

Some other options that I believe are reasonable include Rackspace, which is pretty inexpensive. Most of the other cloud providers that actually use Windows (cloud provisions are still primarily *nix based) will often land you in a similar price range as Azure at around ~$90 bucks or something per instance. Some might be cheaper but you'd have to check...

If you are looking for full control with something like a Virtual
Private Server, we've been having good luck with Softsys Hosting
(http://softsyshosting.com/Windows-VPS-HyperV.aspx). They have good
prices and since I started using them a few months ago we haven't had
any problems -- small but decent plans starting at $45 a mont. There
are a few discounts for them on Microsoft's ASP NET site (http://
www.asp.net)

+1 for SoftSys service. I've only used them for hosting four different sites
over the past 2+ years and have been very happy with their service.

Save yourself some trouble and do NOT try SeekDotNet.  I tried them, got a lot of frustration with slow server response time and lack of advertised components, terminated the contract within the first thirty days and got most of my money back.

I'm now using Arvixe and having much better results.  They have personal, business, reseller (me), virtual private server and dedicated server class plans.  VPS is $40/mo and DS is $105.  Service has been good to excellent.  They have Windows Server 2008, ASP.NET 4.0, SQL Server 2008 and all the other MS goodies.  Servers are in California.
