Wouldn't a permit & inspection by the city building inspector avoid these
risks?

It isn't as hard as Jim Lewis makes it out to be.

Anti siphon valves in the feed lines aren't exactly rocket science.

I just finished my system, and its fine. Many stores sell the
equipment, from the Home Depot types to one small specialized store in
Tigard on 99W on the right side west / south of Walnut Street, right
opposite the old Grange.
That out fit will supply everything you need and a design. They'll even
sell you a shovel.

Me, I rented a ditch witch at Barbur Rentals.

And no, I do not do house calls.
This is definitely an easily accomplished "do it yourself" project.

I suspect if his rates weren't so high, Lewis would get a few more
jobs.

We're booked until Mid-July for sprinkler installs. My concern here has
nothing to do with our business. I don't work outside of Tigard /
Beaverton anyway. I don't do work anywhere near Lloyd Center. And I
definitely don't want that (less than) $1300 job!

My concern is that people are poluting our water supply on a regular
basis because they don't get permits and don't get proper backflow
devices installed.

I couldn't find record of a landscaping license for Lewis
Landscaping...they are required to be licensed with the LCB as a contractor
or service provider, especially with the irrigation.

even if Lewis didnt want to do the job or care to do the job it is in his best interest to make sure that people remain ignorant so that he can justify keeping his rates up. you see, i used to be the “irrigation installer” when I worked for landscaping companies. As you said … it’s NOT rocket science. I do not promote people to pollute the water supply at the same time it isn’t very hard to do this project yourself. Just put in the back flow valve, for Christ sake.

Plus when was the last time you watered your lawn with antifreeze?

To set the record straight (I checked) Lewis Landscaping Services *does*
have an active and valid LCB license (#7267) despite the fact that it does
not show up in a search on the LCB website. The friendly folks at the LCB
confirm that there is an apparent problem with search queries on their
website that causes some valid records to fail to be displayed. This search
query problem is now being addressed and they hope to have it fixed in due
course. When in doubt, give the LCB a phone call to get the real truth.
