While I have not played with the new iPad, my impression is that it's basically an iPod touch on steroids.

Catching up on some reading and...

The Microsoft Courier (supposedily due later this year) as reported by engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/microsofts-courier-digital-journal-exclusive-pictures-and-de/) to me looks more intriguing.  It remains to be seen how both devices are received.

the two-page design leaves me cold. i like the kindle's single screen. then again, maybe when i try the msft device, it will change my mind.

I just purchased a Nook yesterday.  I don't like the idea of 2 pages to look at.

Bought the Nook since I can borrow e-books for free from the library.  Can't do that with a Kindle as far as I know although you can with the Sony.

Nook also runs on Android and can get over the air s/w updates.

Depends, are you buying an e-book reader or a device with more functionality.

Personally I only wanted an e-book reader.

Well, if that's what you want, then neither the iPad nor the Courier make any sense.  If you want Fish, then neither chicken nor hamburger are going to work as a substitute.  :-)

Exactly.  It goes against everything I believe about devices doing multiple things but with a vacation coming up the Nook made sense.  I usually carry 4-5 books on a weeklong vacation and this should just make things easier.  Plus it makes me feel like I'm doing something good for the environment.

As long as it's the white horseradish.  Once it's cut with beets it's for wimps.

All I can do with both the iPad and Courier is go by various online demos.  It appears Microsoft spent a bit more time thinking about functionality and work versus the Apple approach (What can we do with a big iTouch).

I don't know how well either will do in the marketplace (though Apple has a built-in Jobs distortion field not shared by others :-)).

That said...  :-)

Jobs's statements to the contrary, I don't view the iPad as a replacement for a netbook.  The Courier isn't in touted to be.

Any time!  :-)  I'm ready!!!  :-)

Better with (though nearly impossible to find in the US) fresh wasabi versus the powdered stuff.  :-)
