This is a busy time of year for us here on the farm. Steve finished
combining the buckwheat yesterday, and hopes to start on the soybeans
soon. It's always such a feeling of accomplishment to have one task
after another finished up before winter weather arrives. We've already
had a few snow flurries here, but the last few days have been back up
in the 50s.

AN AUTUMN RECIPE
Here's one of our family's new favorite recipes, perfect for this time
of year. This delicious bread didn't last very long around our house.
:-)
**Cinnamon Swirl Pear Bread
3 c. chopped pears
1/2 c. water
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 plk. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. honey
1 Tb. cinnamon
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. almond extract
10-11 c. flour (a combination of whole wheat and unbleached works well)
In pan combine pears, water, 1/2 c. sugar. Simmer 10-12 minutes. Drain,
reserving syrup. Add cold water to make 1 cup.
In bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add 1 tsp. sugar. Let stand 10
minutes. Add eggs, butter, honey, salt, extract, 4 c. flour, pears, and
syrup. Beat till smooth. Add flour to form soft dough. Knead till
smooth and elastic (6-8 min.). Place in greased bowl and let rise till
double.
Punch dough down and divide in thirds. Roll into three 16x8"
rectangles. Combine cinnamon with 3/4 c. sugar and sprinkle over dough
to within 1/2" of edges. Roll up rectangles and pinch seams to seal.
Place seam side down into 3 grased loaf pans, 9x5x3". Cover and let
rise until doubled.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cover loosely with foil and bake
15-20 min. longer, or until loaves test done. Remove from pans to racks
for cooling.
Makes: 3 loaves.

Enjoy fall! Thanks for your interest in our business, and we'll look
forward to hearing from you again sometime.
God bless,
