We've had a busy October here, finishing up the bean and corn harvest
and going to the last of this year's farmer's markets. Now we're
getting ready for several big shows coming up soon:
November 10-11, ABWA Craft Fair, 9-5:00 (Sat.), 9-4:00 (Sun.),
highschool, Nevada, IA ($1 admission)
November 17, Downtown Farmers Market, 9-12:00, Capital Square/Nollen
Plaza, Des Moines
December 15, Downtown Farmers Market, 9-12:00, Capital Square/Nollen
Plaza, Des Moines
Our booth will feature a selection of our best-selling flours,
cereals, whole grains, and snacks, and we'll also have the popular
sampler packs (hot cereals and best sellers) available -- these make
great gift baskets! Also, you'll want to check out our display of
wheat weavings (made from our organic wheat) and handmade tatted
items.
Please let us know if you'd like to place a special order to pick up
(a week's notice is helpful if you want larger quantities), or just
stop by and say hi -- we look forward to seeing you!
Here's a recipe we really enjoyed the other day: it's perfect for a
cozy autumn evening.

APPLE DUMPLINGS
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. butter
Mix together in a small saucepan and gradually bring to a boil.
Stirring well, boil for about 3 minutes. Set syrup aside.
Using 6 medium apples, peel, core, and cut into quarters. Chop each
quarter into thirds.
2 c. flour (we used whole wheat and unbleached)
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
Cut the above ingredients together (adding milk last) to make dough.
Roll dough into a 10x20" rectangle. With a knife, cut this rectangle
into 8 5" squares.
Place 9 apple pieces into each dough square. Bring corners of the
dough up over the apples and press together. Set dumplings in a 9x9x2"
baking dish. Pour syrup over the top and bake at 375 degrees for 35-40
minutes.
Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream, and enjoy!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving season! We have so much to
thank God for, including the opportunity to work together on a family
farm and share the bounty with you, our customers and friends. Thank
you for your support over the past year!
God bless,
