My topic is from my book, and I'll be talking about preparing for, and dealing with, the mania of bipolar. I sing part of my presentations, which lends something a little different.... more »

Sibling questioning diagnosis
|

Hi...I was going to tack this on to the "Family Denial" post, but my situation isn't dealing with my family's embarassment over my diagnosis. My brother (who is 7 years younger than me) and I have gotten into several heated arguments in the last few days regarding my diagnosis of bipolar. He has no problem accepting that I have... more »

To be secretive goes totally against my nature and if I didn't live where I did I would never hide, I promise you. I am a staunch Democrat, lean to the left and have no prejudices (except against... more »

[[link]] <[link]>Story and photo copyright The Boston Globe, 2006Nothing to hide - The Boston Globe <[link]>: "For nearly a decade, state Senator Robert A. Antonioni was willing to do almost anything to hide the fact that he was depressed. Now, he is speaking out about it, to residents in his Central Massachusetts district, to television reporters, and next week on the airwaves, in a public service announcement in which he declares, ''I have a mental illness.'"(ed. note: this story might require a free registration if you don't have one already, but it's well worth it for access to the Globe) --Posted by Mike to Patty Duke's Online Center for Mental Wellness Blog <[link]> at 3/26/2006 10:37:00 AM... more »

Inmate's Death Part of Bigger Issue
|
| |
[[link]] Polk Inmate's Death Part of Bigger Issue | theledger.com <[link]>: "Hundreds of inmates in the Polk County jail system -- almost one in five -- are on medicine for mental disorders. The Special Needs Unit, or SNU, can house 30 men and 16 women, a fraction of the 400-plus on medication. And the number who take psychotropic medications isn't a true picture of those with mental illnesses. Others aren't on medication for a variety of reasons. As many as three-fourths of people arrested who have mental illnesses aren't on their medications when they come to the jail, said Derek Zimmerman, mental-health liaison for the jail." --Posted by Mike to Patty Duke's Online Center for Mental Wellness Blog <[link]> at 3/25/2006 10:55:00 PM... more »
