#4–21: Way of the Kirin (3-7)
New scenario releases May 29th, 2013!
When : Tuesday, June 4, 2013, 10AM CDT (-5 GMT)
Where : Roll20 + Skype, please send Skype invite to Mile.Hi.Sior
Who : PCs can be anywhere between lvls 3 and 7, sub-tiers 3-4 and 6-7.
What : On the eastern continent of Tian Xia, the Pathfinder Society remains a small player in the greater political landscape, but Amara Li, head of the Lantern Lodge in the teeming city of Goka, has plans to change that. In order to secure the Pathfinder Society's place as an influential organization on the far side of the world from the Grand Lodge in Absalom, she must orchestrate an alliance with the mysterious Way of the Kirin. But the longtime rival of the Pathfinder Society, the Aspis Consortium, has plans to form an alliance of its own, and if the consortium succeeds, the Pathfinder Society's hopes of cementing their place in the Dragon Empires could be dashed forever.

This is Lantern Lodge's retirement scenario! All Lantern Lodge members who play this will get a special boon before changing factions.
Remember, your Lantern Lodge and Shadow Lodge PC's need to change their factions (at no cost) by August 14th, 2013, when both Lantern Lodge and Shadow Lodge will be officially removed from PFS play.

RSVP here with what character you want to play! See you Tuesday!

If you cannot make it Tuesday morning, I will also be running this Thursday, June 6 at 10am CDT, and possibly Friday, June 7, same time, with enough interest!

(( Please note there is no Warhorn listing for this event, all information is available through this thread. Happy gaming! ))

Sure, I'll sign up with a Honwa Dashiro, Enchanter 3 (possibly 4 by the time this game hits).

At this point I'm mostly filler as I don't have a Lantern Lodge character. I do, however, have plenty of characters I could use to help aid party survival. I'll happily drop if another Lantern Lodge player wants to get in on this one but was looking to run it soon myself (and playing it might help me prepare to run it :)).

Balgin - As this will be run a few times, in the mornings later in the week, I'd happily welcome you at the table. Sadly, the emphasis of this being a Lantern Lodge centered scenario means damn near everyone's going to be playing with Lantern Lodge characters for the boon. I see no problem letting a non-Lantern Lodge character join in the fun.

Jeremy - I'll post the Thursday morning muster and see who signs up for that. If there are higher levels then, and if there's still room, we can bump you over so you'll feel properly challenged as a higher level PC.

With 10 people responding, it looks like there's enough interest for a second table.  My question for everyone is... if I step up and run a 2nd table on the same day (Tuesday, June 4th) would you prefer
1) the same exact time (10am CDT / 11am EDT)
2) an afternoon game (a START time ranging from noon to 3pm EDT)
3) or an evening game (a START time ranging from 6pm to 8pm EDT)

In part I'm thinking about other times in the interest of reaching a minimum of 12 interested parties, to defend against real life leaving us with any small tables.

If it's for the same time, we can split the tables 5 by 5 (no Buffy reference intended).

If anyone can't make a Thursday or Friday game, I highly suggest taking Oren up on his offer. Even if you can make Thursday or Friday, why wait? Hahaha.

Thanks for the update!

If the 10 people are going to be split into two groups of 5 playing at the same time, we really need to know what characters people are bringing so an intelligent division can be made.  Levels and roles and more informative than levels and classes.  Also, if you *really* want to table with one of the others signed up, that would be worth mentioning.  I'll leave it to players to decide whether they feel a PC's faction should be considered when making the party division.

FWIW, we've got...
5 for L3-L4
1 for L6-L7
4 undefined

From the other primary perspective, we've got...
3.5 ranged attackers
1 caster (minor assumption regarding the sorcerer)
1.5 hard to tells (Oracles can be virtually anything)

Finally, from the optional perspective, we've got
1 definite Lantern Lodge PC, and 3 more whose name strongly implies that they are Dragon Empire descended if not Lantern Lodgers
1 PC who is not Lantern
5 who have not divulged anything about their faction loyalties

Not quite enough to go on.  I hope you can help us help you.

TIA!

Honwa is in fact Lantern Lodge. He is a Kitsune Sorcerer focusing in enchantment spells and other  save or sucks. Definitely a caster.

Undead can't be blinded by color spray. The spell has the mind-affecting descriptor, so undead are immune to the entire thing.

I'm confused.

Are you signing up to play with a dirge bard, Brandon, or just stating the fact that dirge bards do not suffer from the limitation with respect to undead that other enchantment/charm specialists do?

And, FWIW, not all undead can be burned.  I just played Master of the Fallen Fortress yesterday so that is fresh in my mind. :P

Since it's looking like a mostly squishy/support table (or tables) I'll probably be playing a 3rd level paladin of Shelyn who likes keeping party members alive (even if that means frontlining) :p. Hope that helps to sort the tables out a bit more. Not a Lantern Lodge member.

Jeremy,

Apologies if I sound obtuse, but I am a bit confused.

You signed up in this game for the level 7.
Then offered to play Thursday if that game will play up.
Then said this was the "only one [you] can make mid-week".
Then that you're registered for the Thursday game with a level 4.

Naturally, you can't play both for credit, so let's try to iron out the details for this game first. Thursday's roster will likely change dramatically when those who were alternates for Tuesday are now players, so won't be able to play Thursday.

So what shall it be, good sir? Don't worry, you have nearly a week to decide. =)

I'm very happy to do a tier 6-7 with my guy though.  I'm sure he can hold his own at that tier being ranged.

dispel magic won't dispel a wall of stone... doesn't interact with instantaneous duration spells, basically because their effects aren't ongoing. See http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/magic.html#duration - permanent spells are dispellable with dispel magic, but not instantaneous (wall of stone is instantaneous duration)....

You can punch holes in a wall of stone, or stoneshape it out of the way, but it's not a spell effect, it's a conjured-into-reality object that's non-magic once its' in place. An AMF won't even get rid of it.

Happy gaming! ))

Two points, both requesting information/input from others.

1) If one (or both, but likely only one) of the tables were to start 1 hour earlier (9AM CDT, 10AM EDT, 2PM GMT) who could make it at that time and who would prefer it?

2) There are still significant gaps in the information provided by our participants.  In fact, the gaps are numerous and large enough that mustering into 2 reliable and enjoyable tables is not yet appreciably better than randomly assigning tables.

Here's all I can say with any certainty.  We're looking at one table of 5 and one table of 6.  Roger will probably be assigned to the table of 6 since he may have to leave early.  ( BTW, "3PM" ... EDT, CDT or something else?  Also, leaving AT, BY or FOR 3PM? )

That's pretty much it.

I'm going to rearrange information in the hope of teasing out some more information and help make the muster happen, and in a way that will satisfy the most people.

Potential Healers
1. Paul H — Oracle 4 (probably 5...please let us know when L5 is achieved)
2. Balgin — Paladin 3 (player mentioned a focus on "keeping PCs alive")

Potential Ranged
1. Rollin Girulat — Zen Archer 4
2. Jeremy M — Ftr/Rgr 4 (role not disclosed)
3. Roger G — Alchemist 5+ (conditional PC choice & role not disclosed — could easily be a STR-based self-buffer and not a bomber/ranged character)

Potential Arcane
1. James M — Enchanter 3+ (see also SOCIAL)
2. Rubia — Bloatmage 5 (conditional PC choice)

Potential Sneaks
None, or at least none are obvious.

Potential Social
1. James M — Enchanter 3+
2. Rubia — Inquisitor 3 (see also MELEE)
3. Simon Thokaar — Bard 5 (conditional PC choice)

Potential Tank / Melee
1. Jeremy M — Ftr/Rgr 4 (role not disclosed)
2. Balgin — Paladin 3
3A. Rubia — Inquisitor 3 (conditional PC choice)
3B. Rubia — El Kuhl Whip 6 (conditional PC choice)
4. Jacob S — Monk 3
5. Simon Thokaar — Barbarian 3 (conditional PC choice)

No information
1. Billy D — L3 ...
2. Matt W — L3 or L4 ...
3. Roger G — L3 ... (conditional PC choice)

Many, many thanks in advance!

I can play at whatever time, the later would be preferred as i usually dont make it to bed till 5or6am, but the difference in 3-4 hours of sleep isnt enough to really matter, ill just go to bed afterwards.

My bard can also go in the heal category, but the buffs, debuffs and conditions applied to enemys hopefully cuts down on the need for heals.  His AC is 21 so he can probably take a few hits for the team as well, his main weapons are whips and nets tho, so trips and entangles instead of damage dealt (he inspires courage to do his damage).

My barbarian can go into the sneak category (shes actually 1 barb/2 rog, shes so sneaky people dont know shes sneaky).  She also hits like a dump truck.

Both can be self sufficient at healing themselves, and both have CLW wands (barb cant use it so someone else can, she carries pots for herself) and it doesnt matter to me which i play.  Both are fun in their own way.

1: I could make the earlier time.

2: Rilenya Baelrin - 3rd level Sacred Shield paladin (so defending allies instead of smiting) of Shelyn (likes to use social skills to avoid violence and protect/guard/heal party members). Silver Crusade faction. An all round bulwark & support person. As for healing capabilities at 3rd level it's pretty much a first aid kit so she's more likely to be offering protection and damage prevention and hoping someone else can fix injuries. The focus on keeping people alive is mostly in the form of AC and Saving Throw bonuses to hand out to people. Mostly. There will be more healing at later levels.

You'd better put her down as Potential Social as well. She's "only" got a Diplomacy skill of +12 (+16 with humans) at 3rd level :). Interesting that you didn't automaticaly include a paladin in the social category. Are people playing them all as arrogant numbskulls at the moment or something? :P

Yeah, I know. Diplo-Tank builds can be fun :). I'm currently experimenting with an Intimi-Tank build to see how the two compare.

If Paul's going to be playing the Oracle I think he is then it should be reaching level 5 tonight when we finish Fangwood Keep. Of course he could be playing a different Oracle so I'm not entirely certain.

I tried not to assume anything.  That's my preferred stance for everything.

I cited an Enchanter as "social" because they can cut through the normal channels with magic.  I cited the Inquisitor as social because it's player said it was a social PC.  I counted the Bard as social because they have 6 skill points per level and I've seen many socially capable Bards.

I've seen social paladins, I've seen antisocial paladins, but mainly I've seen paladins that that have very few skill points per level and haven't gone out of their way to focus on social skills.  FWIW, I consider Bluff, Intimidate, Disguise and Sense Motive to be social skills just as important as Diplomacy.

I will make the change given the information you've provided.

So can I get a check on the times and days that this is being run? The thread doesn't seem entirely clear. I could play on Tuesday if the other game started at 1-2PM EDT, or if Sior decides to run it Friday, I could play at 11AM EDT. I would use a pregen of whatever class is most useful to the party.

We're now at 9 players and we've been steadily dropping.  There are 4 more tables on other days lacking players, so I'm going to suggest that people consider moving to other table.  The author has a lethal reputation and going in undermanned is probably not wise.  (This is based on reputation, not scenario knowledge.)

If this time slot does drop to one table, it's definitely Sior's baby, so I'll create another thread for another date and time to increase everyone's chances of getting their game on.

Another drop brings us to 8, two tables of 4 if that's the route you all want to go.

Travis, the gametime for Tuesday is either 9am CDT or 10am CDT, whichever works best for everyone (or if we run two tables, one at either time). Oren asked previously what time worked for everyone, I've incorporated the answers below as I've seen them. Apologies if there are any mistakes. Comic Cons can take a lot out of you, haha.

As said above, there is a Thursday game (link provided there). Jacob, you already have a spot if you don't make it Tuesday.

I'm sorry, folks.  I am going to have to reschedule my table for a future date/time.

I've contacted our 'alts' and have already heard back from one of them.  Once I hear back from both (or find out who didn't make the table, if alts get in and others miss) I will reschedule to a date-time that suits both of the people that were left out.

Regardless, I'm going to encourage as many of you as possible to muster tomorrow for Sior's table.  You really want to go in prepared, with your best game face on, and be ready for what could be a relatively long session.  FWIW, "long" doesn't necessarily mean hard, or tedious or any other 'negative' quality.  The adventure has a LOT of latitude and freedom so the experience will be what you make of it.  The rewards can be commensurate with the effort, so even if it turns out to not be your ideal plot or game style it should still be worth the experience (meaning OOC, not XP).

Have fun!

You gotta do what you gotta do, Oren. It's all okay. At least there's a day's notice, haha.

So a quick recap as ever:
I think I have most of you on my Skype list. Jacob, sent an invite to you. Rollin, I don't think I have you. Please send a request to Mile.Hi.Sior and we'll get you set up with the group.
If you have a specific image you would like as your character token, please email the link or the attachment to me directly and I'll get it plugged in.

I will change the game time to be at 9am CDT (GMT-5), which should allow us 5 hours of playtime before anyone has to leave. Yes, this does mean we have to get up earlier. I know, since I'll be at work till midnight CDT right after this game, haha.

Also, APL looks to be putting us at 3-4 sub-tier. Sorry if this saddens the higher level characters.

See you all tomorrow!

After some attempts both online and face to face, I am very much opposed to running a table of 7. So I personally will not run a table of 7 if I can at all help it.

Balgin, I leave it up to you whether you would like to play or drop. (You still get a boon for playing non-Lantern-Lodge members, just not the same one as Lantern Lodgers.)

Jeremy, if you're about, you're welcome to join in. There are also two other spots available if anyone is willing to jump in!

Billy, Rollin, Jacob, if you can get on before we start you're welcome to claim your spots!
