Well it looks like we can't even offer some of our friends designer
world class recognized holiday cordial truffles because Arkansas
requires a liquor license on anything over 0.5% and we are in a dry
strip.

What a shame... sadface....

The no-alcohol law keeps up from offering a lot of holiday gifts. I
was really looking forward to those rum & chai spiced truffles! oh
well.

There's an interesting article on this issue in the new Talk Business Quarterly.  It can be downloaded here:

or in a more readable format here:

You'll also find more worthy reading on this issue here:

You can find Act 1813 of 2003 here:

Dear Cary- Thanks for the review.  I'm sure it took a lot of sifting to get that all together.  Whew whata lotta words! ... well there's the old gym(cleaners) and I noticed that small group of converted home businesses is for sale on the east side.  Just the economy to start a private club restaurant, right?

Surprisingly, it took very little time as I'm a bit of a dork who reads these sort of things all the time.

The thing I still don't know is what locales, exactly, are a far enough distance away from houses of worship & the PH Elementary School that could even potentially qualify for such a niche license?  Bennie, I've seen the map you put together to that end, but I still couldn't determine the physical addresses of the buildings meeting the distance criteria.

Knowing the answer to that question would go a long way.

Both locations are too close to churches/schools according to the maps and laws.

I didn't mean to stir this topic back up. I just thought it would make a
great "alternative view" to the packaged liquor store and restaurant
topics, especially since it is a real life situation being faced by us
business owners in Park Hill. Of course we are not sorry for opening up
shop in Park Hill... but we would love to offer a real high class shop.

Maybe I could get a private club license and open up the Cordial Private
Night Club, where we all eat boxes and boxes of holiday spiced chocolate
rum truffles and play holiday tunes from 7pm to 1am each weekend until
we all get sick and go home. Watcha think? (I am joking of course)

Sorry for the wait, I had to find what I’d done with the buffered area file.  One time I’d been told 1000 ft. radius and another a little over 1000 ft. radius, so this map showed the concentric circles within the old 1966 wet/dry election areas.  This covers schools, daycares, churches.

The great thing about Adobe files is you can zoom in and see the addresses…..the sad thing is it’s pretty obvious North Park Mall and the adjacent strips are the only areas outside the circles anywhere near Park Hill Historic to the north.  They are just outside the wet/dry area, but I’m wondering how Larry’s Pizza got a license so close to a church…I guess the rules can be flexed a bit, huh?  Not that I begrudge them getting the license, we need the commerce.

An interesting thing is……… the area north of I-40….where the Park Hill Vet and the “Name Changes” Hotel are located, is addressed off Main St., not JFK……..AND they’ve never been included in the wet/dry or a buffered restriction area. With a change of direction development and planning, this little area could be a gold mine.  If I win the lottery I’m going to pursue it.

LOL. Thanks for the support.

I think its silly asking all these chocolate truffle makers what the
alcohol content is for their truffles. I however did find some that were
alcohol free and within the legal limits.

I just think its sill having to worry about this in the first place.

Me too! How silly. I'm sure getting that tested costs a pretty
penny, and why?

not being able to sell the cordial truffles because they contain
alcohol is about the dummest thing I've ever hear of! If that is
true, how do stores in dry areas sell vanilla and other flavorings?
I've know people that DRINK vanilla because they won't go to a liquor
store! I mean...get real.

BTW, all tea, herb and spice products are now sold by the ounce, get a
little or get a lot, it is up to you. Now there is no need to buy an
expensive jar of spice that will go to waist. All spices and teas are
organic and super fresh! You can even get less than an ounce if you need
just a little.
