PARC Friends,

Please note this message from Karen Sturdevant. Will those of you who service more than one presbytery and/or entities in your area pay a fee to join your resource center please send your thoughts and great ideas to Karen? Please reply to Karen and/or the whole group with your thoughts. Thanks for your support for Karen at Sacramento Presbytery Resource Center, also serving Redwoods and San Joaquin!

Peace,

Candace C. Hill

This is the information I am looking for:

I am a Resource Center that is housed  in the Presbytery Office for one presbytery whose needs I can serve effectively most  of the time.  My concern is that I also have other presbyteries that pay in as “members” a yearly fee.  I have attended at least  one Presbytery meeting in each of the “member” presbyteries and send my newsletters to them on a regular basis.  What else can I do to “serve” them and  make them aware of the materials that are available.  The Resource Center is included on the web site for the presbytery where we are housed.  If anyone has this situation – what  have they done – did it work – if not why do they think it did not?  One suggestion that was made to me was to have volunteers, working with a “scrip” call each individual church and try to get one person at each  church who would serve as a conduit for information – what their needs were at that church.  The goal of course was to build relationships.  Has anyone tried this??

I ask that people please reply to the GROUP as well.  We are very similar.
We are Ecumenical.  There are 4 Meth. districts in our Conf. as well as other
denominations.  I'm U.Meth. and try to establish relationships with the pastors.
When they move, They know about our services.  I'm also a district UMW (women)
officer and do displays and get the word out there.  Our BOD contacted churches
with a scrip but the SECRETARY is not much help, and if you are referred to other
members there are more long distance calls to make and that person may change
in a few months.

We ask the office at our member churches to forward out monthly newsletter update
to those working in education.   We have our own website, also have a link from the
UMConference, Presbytery, and UCC Conference (I think).  We also asked (by email) each church to
put a link to us on their home page.  We found it is better for us to communicate by email
after they know we exist.

We get calls from all over the U.S. when someone searches for a particular video or DVD that
we have.
This being said business is slow!

Karen,
I'm in the Resource Center in one presbytery but an adjacent presbytery to our south pays a fee for me to serve their congregations. We've done exactly what you have done but provide the link to our online catalog on the adjacent presbytery's website and spot good patrons of the center in the next presbytery to speak/advocate for our services and bring or send displays to the special training events at the other presbytery (in addition to their presbytery meetings). I'll be eager to see if others have done more or different things.

Thanks,
NiAnn Thompson
