This from Strong's H8104, shamar - properly, to hedge about...i.e. guard; generally, to protect, attend to...keep, mark.... . Now there is only one meaning that is appropriate in this context. That meaning is 'to obey'. So the English world that applies to us that means to obey, today, at this time, in this part of the world, to achieve that meaning from that definition, is 'keep'. Tho many believers have followed 'guard', it conveys the wrong meaning. We are to do more than guard Yahweh's commandments; we are to 'do' them. That is 'obey' them. That is, 'keep' them. According to today's usage, 'keep' is a closer conveyance. Obey is accurate. Guard is not correct. Observe is closer, and even accurate to a lesser degree than 'keep'.
