Hi everybody. I don't seem to be able to install the newest Ubuntu on
my Pandaboard. Everything looks good until I have to enter my data.
Afterwards some computations are done (while showing the Ubuntu 11.10
slides). Then suddenly the screen becomes black (but the board does
not perform a complete reboot) and the diolog "System Configuration"
shows up again, where I need to enter all my data again. All of that
seems to happen in an infinite loop. Has anybody experienced similar
problems and/or knows a solution?

Thanks, Sven

What you meant by data ?

I just tried installing Ubuntu 11.10 on my pandaboard A2 and I had
some success, but still had issues. I downloaded the Desktop for
armel from the ARM/OMAP link on the wiki and then followed the
installation instructions from the link also on the wiki, changing
only the file name. I then took the SD card that the installation
process copied to it and inserted it into the Pandaboard and booted
it. It then resizes and completes the installation

I only had issues trying to install the TIOAP PVR stuff. It didn't
work by clicking the icon for that purpose. I had to manally add the
repository and install the packages listed on the wiki. That failed
unless you update the software first, but then you still have to do it
manually. That reboots and gs2gears works fine, but the fonts are
really messed up somtimes in standard windows regardless of
application. Sometimes unreadable. It also didn't pick up the fact
that my monitor connected via HDMI was 1920x1080.

This is a known issue with the armel images. We are still trying to
troubleshoot it. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/871785
The failure is mainly timing related, as I have been able to get
through on a select few SD cards I have. Other SD cards reproduce
this issue 100% of the time.

The workaround is to go through the configuration once (selecting
Language, Timezone, and adding login info), then if/when it cycles
back to the language selection, press <ctrl><alt><F1> and log in using
the previously entered userid & password.
Once logged in, type "sudo oem-config-remove && sudo reboot". When
the system reboots, you will have a fully working setup.
