Virginia Jane (Brackett) Stagner

Virginia Jane Stagner, a native of Pacific Grove and a resident of
Joshua Tree for over 20 years, died of a heart attack Sept. 9, 2009,
in Palm Springs. She was 89 years old. The daughter of Brackett and
Helen Dougherty, she was born Nov. 15, 1919. Mrs. Stagner was a
schoolteacher for 20 years before she retired. She was a member of the
Red Hat Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. A multi-
lingual world traveler, Mrs. Stagner was a poet and ventriloquist who
collected hats and dolls and excelled at accounting. She is survived
by husband Raymond A. Stagner of Joshua Tree, daughters Carol J.
Martinez of Anaheim and Margaret L. Adams of Twentynine Palms, sons
Richard H. Stagner of Twentynine Palms and Robert A. Stagner of
Riverside, half-brother Edward Hewitson of Vancouver, Wash.,
stepsister Marian Marcha of Byron, nine grandchildren, 12 great-
grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service
will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 in Valley Community Chapel at 59025
Yucca Trail in Yucca Valley, Pastor Tom Aversa officiating.
