June 23, 1928 ~ December 28, 2008 Monterey - Donald Lee Jacobson, a
long-time Monterey Peninsula resident, went to be with his Lord and
Savior on December 28. He was born in St. Paul, NB and moved to
Pacific Grove as a young boy. Following graduation from Pacific Grove
High School, Class of 1947, Donald served with the U.S. Army in Korea.
He then began his 33-year Civil Service career at the Naval
Postgraduate School. Donald then had a second career working at the
Harrison Memorial Library in Carmel for 15 years. An active member of
the First Baptist Church of Monterey, he also attended the First
Baptist Church of Salinas. Don was a loving, caring man with a great
sense of humor. He loved singing, especially old hymns. A history
buff, he also enjoyed old movies. Don loved telling stories of his
childhood in Nebraska and his time in the service. He loved eating
out, especially at the Victorian Corner in Pacific Grove. Don said
that he had a good life, loved his Lord, family and his country. He
was also proud of his Swedish heritage and had traveled extensively.
Don knew he was well-loved by his family who surrounded him until the
end. Donald is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Chuck) Dillard of
Monterey and Deborah Becerra of Seaside; his sisters, Laverne Stoddard
of Lodi, Dorothy (Jack) Gunter of Pebble Beach and Arvilla Sikes of
Poulsbo, WA; his grandchildren, Anthony, Megan, Jeannette, Christina,
Cody, Jason, Joey and Sara; two great-grandchildren and many loving
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in
2003; his infant son, Donald Larimore Jacobson; his brother, Quentin
Jacobson and his sister, Arlyne Coons. Visitation will be held at The
Paul Mortuary Chapel today, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 4:00 -
8:00 PM. Funeral Services will take place tomorrow, Wednesday,
December 31, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Monterey
followed by burial at Mission Memorial Park. Memorial contributions
