Hi,

Back from our trailer trip to Bots, Zim and Nam.

Basic route:
Nata
Hwange
Kasane
Caprivi/Ngepi
Maun
Kubu Island
Francistown
Home

Did not do Hunters, extremely wet all over, and did not want to risk it.
Even getting into Nata Lodge, you had to drive thru 2 feet of water. We
also decided against Kaudom, only two vehicles and both towing trailers,
was maybe looking for trouble. Went to Hwagne and Kubu instead, which
was awesome. People in Zim are suffering big time! Kubu was infested
with hoardes, and I mean HOARDES of mosquitoes. The minute we got out of
the car, we got nailed about 10 times each before we could get some
lotion and spray all over us. They did not leave us alone.

Excellent photos!

How was the trip to Kubu? Which route have you taken and did you
encounter any troubles? (We might want to take a trip there in about 4
weeks, depending on the circumstances.)

Cheers,

Sander

Hi, we entered from the north, in other words the Nata-Maun Road (Left
hand fork if you look at T4A). No issues at all. About 3.5 hours to get
to Kubu from the tar road.

We tried to exit via the southern route, and drove about 7kms across the
pans, and things started to get very wet and snotty and slippery. Heine
got out the car to go check, and nearly slipped an fell. We decided to
turn around and head back out via the northern route (Right hand fork),
and we got out in about just over 2 hours. No issues at all.

But, things were very wet in the area, and should dry out in the next
few weeks. I cannot however comment on whether the southern route will
be accesible.

I reckon the with 3 or more vehicles, not towing trailers, it should be
OK, but that is a very speculative comment :-)

The mozzies were horrific, but they too should be gone when the water
dries up.

Cheers

Nice trip, Jacque. Much greener than when we were in Hwange in
October. Was the game dispersed due to the water?
That drawer system in your tailer looks very handy. Can one buy the
drawer system (& where from?) or is it part of the trailer package?

Yip, although we saw quite a lot of game (Variety rather than numbers),
there was much less than there could have been, had it been drier. There
was water standing in the bush all over the place, as a result, seeing
anything proved to be rather difficult.

I don't know if you can get the drawer system separate, although I don't
see why not. It's bolted to the inside of the trailer, so is a separate
unit. Try Echo http://www.echo4x4.co.za/ 012-3453333, which is where I
bought the trailer.

Cheers
