“Peace begins on our Plate”
United Nations International Day of Peace - September 21st
September 21st was declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace. The nonprofit organization Pathways to Peace promotes the United Nations Peace Day and has approved the events titled “Peace begins on our plate” which will take place around the world and help people realize that the veggie diet is the most viable way of living.
The Chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, has recommended a weekly meat free day as a simple yet effective way to prevent climate change: "If you eat less meat you would be healthier and so would the planet ... it would help the global community enormously because the entire meat cycle is very, very intensive in terms of carbon dioxide emissions."
Also, it was concluded by a University of Chicago study that “…switching from the average American diet to a vegan diet would save 50% more greenhouse gas emissions than switching from the average American car to a hybrid Prius..” Thus getting rid of animal agriculture would mean getting rid of the biggest source of observed global warming. A veggie diet is the most powerful thing we can do as individuals to address this climate change crisis.
We encourage you to participate in this special event and come out to freely distribute your own material for distribution on this day or come to visit us at the below-mentioned location. Let’s show that sustainability starts with your stomach and that what we eat really does matter and is the key to creating peace among people, between humans and our animal co-inhabitants and with Mother Nature by no longer depleting her valuable resources.
This event will be held on
When: Friday, 18 September 2009
Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Ottawa University - University Centre (beside bookstore) - Jock Turcot Bldg - 85 University Street
