The Shrine Circus is coming to Ottawa this weekend and they continue to use animals as part of their act. Horses, dogs, and elephants are forced to travel from city to city confined to boxcars and trailers for days on end. The physical confinement to which these animals are subjected to has harmful physical and psychological effects, often indicated by unnatural behaviours such as repeated head-bobbing, swaying and pacing. Circuses easily get away with routine abuse because no government agency monitors training sessions. Trainers use bullhooks, whips, sticks, electric prods, and other tools that intentionally cause pain and injury in order to force animals to perform. Undercover footage of behind-the-scenes training shows elephants beaten with bullhooks and shocked with electric prods.

Shrines Circuses have deplorable records of cruelty to animals, serious violations of animal welfare legislation, and animal attacks resulting in injury and even death. Elephants used by the Shriners have rampaged, killing trainers and injuring children.

Come speak for these animals and ask people to boycott ths Shrine Circus until they stop using animals!!

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR DIRECT ANIMAL CARE AND SHELTER AT TEJA'S ANIMAL REFUGE

Teja's Animal Refuge is located near Cornwall and has been inoperation since 1992. During that time they have rescued and given permanent homes to hundreds of animals. Currently over 60 animals are in Teja's care, animals who would most likely not be alive if not for Teja's. Donations of money and supplies are needed to defray the costs of feed, medicine, hay, straw, a blacksmith, and veterinary care.
