DIVINA ET FEMINA III – Sacred Domesticity
MAY 03 - JUNE 28 2000

DIVINA ET FEMINA is an annual project of the Canadian Centre for Research on
Women and Religion facilitated by the DIVINA Collective. DIVINA ET FEMINA's
mandate is to create vital links between: academics, artists, faith
practitioners and members of the general public who are or wish to be
exploring the controversial subject of the female divine. The process is
multi-generational, multicultural, bilingual, and non-hierarchal, inclusive,
yet rigorous in its critical debate.

Every year we invite artists, artisans, faith practitioners and academics to
take part in the various events of DIVINA ET FEMINA. We are looking for
art, performances, rituals and academic presentations, in English or French,
on the subject of women and the divine with a special emphasis this year on
"Sacred Domesticity."

The role of women as creators of the sacred is rarely acknowledged in the
biblical traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. But a closer look
at the everyday activities of women, in these and other religions of the
world, as they construct the context, content and scripts of meaningful
events, for themselves and their families and communities, evidences
varieties and scopes of sacredness rarely apprehended by the theologians of
canon and orthodoxy. It is in the details of their tasks and the care of
their engagement that we see the sacred made manifest.

We invite you to participate in the dialogue on women's production of the
sacred. Please send a 250-300 word abstract or art/performance description
no later than March 30th 2000 to:
