Special Announcements

·       Critical Need for Volunteers at the New Student Picnic! See details below. This is going to be an amazing opportunity to educate students, as nearly all new OSU students will attend – let’s teach ‘em when they’re young!

·       We’re starting a new initiative to reduce waste at home football games! Tactics may include collecting recyclables at the gate that were formerly landfilled, PSAs and videos played during the game, and reaching out to tailgaters outside the stadium. Let us know if you want to get involved or have any ideas!

Event Waste Reduction: OSU Finance & Admin Picnic

·       Thurs, Sept 10, 11:45-12:45 and 12:45-1:45 (or whenever you’re available)

·       Lower Campus Lawn (Jefferson & 15^th), OSU

·       Help is needed to staff the waste stations at the event, helping staff sort their recycling, compost, and trash. A community-building picnic for F & A staff. The first event they’ve put on with all compostable wares! Free meal!

Event Waste Reduction: New Student Picnic

·       Tues, Sept 22, 4:30-5:30 pm and 5:30-6:30 pm (or whenever you’re available)

·       Memorial Union Quad, OSU

·       Staff the waste stations at the event, helping students sort their recycling, compost, and trash. A picnic for an expected 3,000 new students which organizers are trying to make completely or nearly waste free! Free meal!

Event Waste Reduction: University Day Lunch

·       Thurs, Sept 24, 12-1:30 pm

·       CH2M Hill Alumni Center, OSU

·       Help is needed to staff the waste stations at the event, helping sort recycling, compost, and trash. University Day is an annual year opening celebration that serves as a time for the campus to honor the achievements of our best, brightest and most giving faculty and staff. Free meal!

·       Help is needed to staff the Campus Recycling info table - educating people, mostly staff, about how to recycle on campus and recruiting more volunteers. University Day is an annual year opening celebration that serves as a time for the campus to honor the achievements of our best, brightest and most giving faculty and staff.

Stats from Our First Event!

We coordinated compost collection at our first major event last week, the annual OSU Finance and Administration’s Luau. Excluding food prep waste (waste from roasting the meat), here is what we collected:

·       Recyclables = 102 gallons

·       Compostables = 130 gallons

·       To the landfill = 5 gallons

So excluding food prep waste, we only sent 5 gallons to the landfill and diverted 232 gallons from it!
