hi!
i was just going through some of the features provided by commercial
traffic generators and i was wondering what does it mean when some
traffic generators say that they support "X" number of TCP connections
or "Y" number of VoIP sessions/call flows . Some say that user can
track upto "Z" no.of flows. while actually packets are not resulting
from actual connections ( as network stack is not used ) but are
crafted and flooded in the network.

regards
Ratnadeep

Ratnadeep,

Some commercial traffic generators do support
statefull/connection-oriented operations where actual handshake is
done and connection established. They also implement specific
protocols such as BGP, OSPF etc. to do stateful testing. Typically
they have a basic product which does not support these stateful things
but only basic packet crafting e.g. Ixia Explorer while a higher end
product would support these features e.g. IxNetwork
