Open Source Developers Conference (OSDC) is a annual conference for developers who use, develop or leverage Open Source Software.
It started in Melbourne for the first few years - but it's also been to Brisbane (twice) & Sydney. Some time ago I had this idea to do a bid for the Gold Coast - but it's been sitting on the back burner for a while. I went as far as contacting venues and gathering the documentation from previous conferences, but that's about all I've done so far.
Anyway - I'm going to start looking at this again, as it really is a great conference and I think it would work well here.
I'm currently looking for nominations to join the core bid team and if we win continue through to organising the conference to be held around November 2011.
For the conference itself we should be able to get plenty of volunteers from Unis/TAFE etc - but what I am asking for now is a core group of about 5 Gold Coast people who can commit an hour or two a week to be the core organisers. If I can't get some guaranteed help, I won't be continuing with the bid as I don't want to do this as a lone ranger.
For more info on http://osdc.com.au. If you want to nominate, please email me back with your contact details and any particular skills you have that might be useful. Some typical tasks are:
- Sponsorship (we have a good list of people - just need to get on the phone and call them all) - Venue search and liason once picked - Network (ie. Internet for delegates during the conference) - PR & Webmaster - Financials
Well I gave it a month and got no responses to this. Is there really NOONE interested in helping with this? Everyone I've mentioned it to outside of Gold Coast thinks it's an awesome idea and are very encouraging, but as I said before, I won't do it on my own - so need YOU!
Would a bid for Linux Conf get more attention??? That is really a much bigger undertaking and having never worked on one before, wouldn't feel comfortable leading it... happy to be a helper on that though.
Anyway - last chance on the OSDC idea, if I don't hear anything, you won't hear me raise the subject ever again....

I've done some work recently for the IT guy at GCCEC. Could be a nice contact to get a good deal there. I could commit some online time skype/irc/email but no weekly in-person guarantee.
