A big thank you to everyone who attended the Work Sprint on Saturday!  Highlights included:

  • Preliminary Hackers Lounge Planing.
  • A discussion around whether or not to include the "s" in hackerslounge.  I think we decided no "s."  But I suspect there will be more debate.
  • Initial draft of the Master Conference Schedule.
  • A review of open logistics tasks and filling in any missing gaps in Redmine.
  • We came up with some new ideas for Extra’s including Shanghai Tunnel Tours.
  • We talked about how to organize non-tech interest-based dinners – beer brewing, sci-fi fans and “war stories” as a few examples — to help attendees feel at home socializing.
  • We started planning how we’d provide information to attendees about important topics like best local breweries.
  • Using the Hackers Lounge to do audio-processing so we can post session recordings the day after they are made

Finally and most importantly we took a tour of the Mark Building at the Portland Art Museum.  Where, if rumors are true, this years’ Open Source Bridge is slated to take place - we are just waiting on an ok from our attorney regarding some changes to the contract - before making an announcement.  There were many ooh’s and aww’s.  Classy was another word frequently used to describe the Mark Building.

Thanks again to everyone who dropped by!
Jen

Howdy,

Google search for

"hacker lounge": 18,700 hits (the top few are OSB related, i.e. that
is what we called it last year)
"hackers lounge": 17,900 hits (first hit is a Warez site, yay!)
"hacker's lounge" : 7,220 hits (warez again)

Can we please not use the "s" ?

Duke

I think the Hacker Lounge will be a BYOH (Bring Your Own Hardware) event.

That's fine for audio/video editing, but there needs to be some kind of
off-line "server" resource for storage, rendering and distribution. It's
OK if that's somewhere "in the cloud" provided we have upload bandwidth.
Typically, though, upload bandwidth is a fraction of download bandwidth.
