Hey guys,
If there is one thing that has become clear after going to the conferences I have over the past month, it's that in our profession nobody gets enough "practice". A musician needs to continually practice their instrument, but rarely do we hear about people coding for the sake of practice. We had Corey Haines come show us how to do a code kata, which is one way to focus our skills, but I'm wondering if there is something more we can do as a users group to further focus our skills.
Having a presentation every month is informative, but it's definitely not as educational as spending an hour to work through a code kata. So I want to gauge interest in maybe having a few ORUG meetings (next year) which maybe focus on polishing programming skills. Thoughts?
Lastly, I'm wondering if anyone is looking for Ruby / Rails development work. Please email me off list if you have availability and you can come and work down at CoLab with EnvyLabs. We'd totally be open to an Intern position if you're someone who is looking to break into doing Ruby/Rails development, but you haven't done any production apps yet.
Thanks,
Gregg Pollack
