Hi all -
As orkut grows in popularity around the world, it also grows as an
attractive target for malicious actions by a select few people trying
to ruin the experience for all users.  Yesterday, orkut came under
attack in which many of our users received scraps from "friends" of
theirs, that their friends did not actually send.  It would likely
have appeared as confusing spam messages in your scrapbook.

The orkut team worked late into the night to fix this issue and we
believe that this attack has been effectively stopped and you should
no longer receive any more of these. We appreciate your understanding
in these cases of cyber-attacks and hope that this did not create too
much of an inconvenience for you or your fellow orkut friends.

As a quick reminder for future instances of possible cyber-attacks:
 1. Think twice about clicking on or pasting suspicious links into
your browser that were sent to you in your scrapbook, especially if
you do not know the sender.
 2. When using a shared computer (i.e. internet cafes) make sure that
you click "logout" when you are finished.
 3. Avoid sharing personal information ( i.e. username, password,
address, phone number) in publicly accessible spaces.
 4. Only use your orkut login information on www.orkut.com or a
specific Google website that you wish to visit.
 5. Never share your password or username in response to an email!!
Even if it says that it's from orkut. orkut will NEVER send you an
email asking you for your username or password.
