Again, I suppose there isn't much action here cuz we all be out ridin
our butts off!??! I know I am = been over the mountain several times a
week for the past month. 1100 is rockin--the solid feel still stands
out and I credit the tubular front axle which along with the Chris
King hub are the only real differences in that department. Lovin the
Rohloff too.

The only slight downside is sometimes I get stuck behind slow cars and
don't have quite enough umph to pass--one guy pulled over for me as I
had me headlights on!!

Ride on men--ride on....

I've been riding a bit, and having some fun. Sunday was out on the
mountain bike, and the tires neve touched anything but snow!

Just learned how to get more of them to pull over--this in daylight
1--approach with light off. 2--Turn light on when behind them (close
but not tailgating) Stop pedaling then turn on light. Thing is when
you pedal and they see it's a bicycle they'll not pull over but if
they think it's a motorcycle they often will.

Work, coaching and family responsibilities, tied in with a weak, 3+
year old battery has ended my commuting season.

I did cruise 5 miles on the Opti on Sunday in dress pants...

Uncle Al, you and Chris are the only 1100R riders I know. How about
and update??

Are your commutes significantly faster? MArginally? Any average
speed data after several rides?

DR, My over mountain commute took one hour on my 850 with 2.5+ year
old battery. The 1100 does it in 45 minutes = it seriously flies! Most
of the time I don't want to go any faster and I also commute on my
stripped down and hopped up Ducati 900SS. The 1100 is a whole nother
world. My commute trip top speed has been 39 and average 21.5mph.

This is the bike I've been waiting for. I have a Tidalforce 1000 watt
and a 5200 Crystalite with a 48-72V controller. The big hub motors are
the only thing that could compare to the 1100. But they are heavy and
suck batteries to death with their ungeared heavy current draw and
have no battery warranty let alone a 3 yr USA warranty!!

Nothin like it--perhaps a Stealth but that does not have the high end
suspension, balance, weight (55lbs) batt warranty, tires and brakes
which I need for my intense commute and required fine handling
(Ducati)

30d and 400+ miles now on my 1100R ... just love it, and I agree w/ Al that
I would not want her to be any faster. Incredibly smooth and wind whistles
through my helmet like the 850 never could ... still getting the dry eye
syndrome even w/ my new outrageously expensive Lance Armstrong Oakleys! You
just kind of feel like you need to keep your eyes completely wide open cuz
you're movin' sooo fasssssssst. Where are my misters ...

I have a correction to issue: Previously I posted that my 1100R cruises @
25 to 27mph in Eco, 90 cadence in 14th gear flat terrain & no wind ... I
should have said 12th gear, not 14th.

A couple Sundays back I decided to do an early morning cross-town ride of 40
miles ... I went on Eco on the first half and came screaming back in Fast
mode w/ a tail wind ... it was a blast until I got about 2 miles from home
when the bike went from flashing yellow to red and dead in less than 30
seconds! Well, needless to say ... of course I live near the top of a steep
hill in Summerlin ... so I had an extra "special" work out at the end of my
early morning ride! Not sure what the deal was there ... I normally don't
go to "E" and my 850s never did that ... but whatever > The bike still
rocks!

Yes, my commutes are definitively faster ... 25 mile RT I would say I save
15 to 20 min depending on variables. Not really "pushing it" my average
speed is between 21 and 23mph. I still have not done the no pedal speed
test ... will try to remember and report back L8r. Weather in Southern
Nevada has been spectacular this November!

Great to hear the update, Chris, glad you are still loving the bike.
Weather here in Northern Nevada has been spectacular too, just in a
different way. Cold, but clear sunny days have meant lots of riding
opportunities. We've got a bit of a cold front moving through today
and tomorrow, not much precip, but temps dropping like the proverbial
rock and winds getting nasty again.
Cheers,

thanks for the write up Nimbuzz, good info ! I'm trying to remember,
was your commute 15 or 20 miles? also, what was the grade change of
your commute ?

also great info Dr Pederson ! so that confirms several things.
1) opti range on their web site is about 42 mi in eco for the 1100
with internal battery ( half of 85). I assume you took the same route
coming back so overall the grade climbs are equal to the down hills
which cancel each other, so basically it can be compared to flat. You
made it in 38 miles with half the distance in fast mode, so opti
published ranges are probably conservative. Good to know : )
2) I think it makes since what you say about the battery going dead in
30 sec, that confirms what I thought about constant power. According
to John's (bike-on) helpfull explanation of how the program is
designed to increase amps ( or volts ?) as the battery is used( I
think that's what he wrote) I can see how the drop off to zero power
would be much faster.

Dr Chris,

When you say "E" == Empty, ie, battery shuts off and bike cannot
recycle power on with the switch, it needs to be charged??

For the 850Lxi/R, the safe mode Blickety-Blankety-blinking Red LED cut
power to 200W and gave one a couple miles to limp home.

Your 30 second response is a VERY sharp knee on the amp-hr discharge.
Opti is conservative, so you must have been drawing a lot of juice
(current) in fast mode to drop the Voltage to trip point. Again, a
non-linear led for this function. Gotta go by miles, or install a CA
and use discharge ahrs...or ride short and don't worry about it,
you've got pedals and legs!

Thanks Al and Chris for the fine reports. Real life says it all.

Al, I think this Opti IS the bike we have been waiting for. Range is
a little tight, but they offer the rear battery, a solid design and
true range extender with warranty included. Thi sbike does appear to
be OPTI-mized. Weight is low, power is up, variable suspension, solid
braking, variable/optimum torque thru gears, Top and cruising speed/
ahrs is about right without going into special aero packages, or
morphing into a power bike. On the flats, I predict a cruising speed
of 37mph at 1100W as very acceptable, given the exponentia incr in
power for more speed, and then one can turn off road and climb a 12%
grade at the peak efficiency. Can't do that on a hub.

Hey Dan --

Yes, in regard to the "E" I referred to, it is as you describe ... all the
way juiced out/dead/caput/non-responsive or unresuscitatable (medical jargon
;-). And that was part of my point: There was no "safe mode
Blickety-Blankety-blinking Red LED cut power to 200W" which I was actually
counting on as a backup. Not being a master electrician, I don't "get" why
it happened ... just reporting the facts :-\ When she died that day I was
going up an extra steep sharply winding path, so your assessment that I was
drawing a lot of juice at the time would be accurate.

Afterwards, she charged up fine and continues to work impressively, although
I have not challenged the battery range that close since. I'm considering a
Christmas gift purchase of the "range extender rear battery" although I am
not in love with the moped look of it.

Well, winter blew in here yesterday late afternoon (thanks John for sending
the blast down from Reno 8-)) but I ride year round here regardless (don't
need spiked tires).

Montana,

You are correct. I think Craig originally quoted 60 lbs. Maybe
Nimbuzz rides on just a seat post and got his down to 55lbs??

63 lbs is very respectable, making it the lightest high powered production e-bike that doesn't cost more than $50K :) There really is a lot to like.

I say 55# cuz my 800 is 50# on bath scale and 1100R was 60# for whole
carton & charger as per air freight.
