Opera6 Keyboard Hack changes the keystrokes used within Opera 6.01
to standard Netscape / IE keyboard keystroke commands and includes
improved search engine routines for Opera Version 6.01:

New Features:
Goto URL
In Opera 6.01, clicking on a word will give you the option of
looking the word up in the Encyclopedia. We never use this feature,
because Google is the best Encyclopedia out there if you ask us.
So we added a new feature where Opera will view a page if you
highlight just the URL (without http://). Just double click on a
URL that is missing the link, press U or click on the "Goto URL"
tab with your mouse and away you go.
Language Translation
One pretty neat feature of Opera 6.01 is the language translation
feature. If you click on a word and then click on the Translate
menu tab you can translate words or phrases into any of eighteen
language pairs. We took this feature and improved on it. With
Opera6 Keyboard Hack installed, if you come across a page that
you would like to read but can't, just press F2 and then press
the two letter combination for the language pair that would
translate it into a language you can read, for instance "fe"
for French to English. Voila! We also made a small modification
by adding English Chinese English in place of the English
Portuguese English language pair. The available language pairs
are as follows:
ef English to French
eg English to German
ei English to Italian
ec English to Chinese
es English to Spanish
fd French to Dutch
fe French to English
fg French to German
fi French to Italian
fp French to Portuguese
fs French to Spanish
ge German to English
gf German to French
ie Italian to English
if Italian t French
ce Chinese to English
se Spanish to English

Hurry and download Opera6 Keyboard Hack if you want it. Opera6.com
ISP limits traffic to 1 Gig per month, so that's only about 1000
downloads. Otherwise you'll have to wait until next month or get it
from a friend. If anyone would like to provide server space for this
utility please

A couple of thousand people have downloaded it from our site since it
was first released back in December. How many other people downloaded
it from other sites we have no idea. I was hoping Opera might
incorporate a keyboard customization feature similar to their Search
Engine customizer, but so far no luck.

When you have a URL that you get a 404 on all you have to do is put a C
in front
of it, and you are able to pull up the page as it originally was. For
instance
if you visit:

make sure the link is really bad, and not just a problem with your ISP.
If you visit this you might not be able to read it:
http://www.offshorereg.com/hwlags1.htm
Using a language combination you can at least understand something:
ce http://www.offshorereg.com/hwlags1.htm
This can make searching international pages much easier.

The Linkcounter site is down right now. The direct link to the file is:
http://www.c8p.net/dl/opera6kbh.zip
The Linkcounter link should be back up and running in a few days.

Some notes about upgrading - when you install Opera 6 make sure to make
a NEW directory (like C:\Program Files\Opera6\. Do NOT install over the
previous installation of Opera 5.12 as this can be unstable.
If you like your bookmarks displayed in your order, run Opera6 once,
select the order by pressing on the Hotlist button and clicking on View
- Sort by my ordering. Then copy the file Opera5.adr from the Opera
5.12 directory to the Opera 6.01 directory. Then delete the file
Opera6.adr from the Opera 6.01 directory. Then rename Opera5.adr to
Opera6.adr in the Opera 6.01 directory. Now you have your old
bookmarks.
Don't delete your installation of Opera 5.12 in a hurry. You may want
to get used to using Opera 6.01 first, and you may want to change a few
things in your setup and need to look back to the files you were using
in 5.12 for help (like the Hotlist, Contact.adr, etc.

Charlie

Why on earth did you remove Google Groups? I use it everyday!

I have NOT tested these and don't know if they work. The search.ini I
have made includes all the language translations, so I am not sure other
utilities support modifications to these other engines. You could go in
an modify it on your own by editing it in notepad. Search Engine 24
French to Dutch does not seem to be working. You could change the URL
to:
http://google.com/grphp?hl=en&q=%s
and change the Key to "r" and you will have your Groups back.
Cheers,
Charlie

I've played around with this this morning and it doesn't seem to work
for me. I press F2 and indeed, the address bar hightlights, but when
I type "fe", or whatever, it takes me to "fe.com". Has Lycos
Translation changed the URL or am I just too tired to figure this out?
I really only need the French to English one if someone knows of a
fix.
Presently, I have:
[Search Engine 24]
Name=French to English
URL=http://translation.lycos.com/?urltext=%s&lp=fr_en&partner=demo-Lycos2-en
Query=
Key=fe
Is post=0
Has endseparator=0
Encoding=iso-8859-1
Search Type=9
