I asm having trouble installing the WMP plugin in order to play WMP media
online. How would I do this? What DLL would I need to copy into my plugins
folder?

Thanks.

If a recent version of WMP is properly installed, Opera should find it on
install. The files npdsplay.dll and npwmsdrm.dll and npds.zip will be
placed automatically in Opera's plugin folder.

If they can be found, why does Opera need copies; why not load them from
that location (as is done with the Quicktime, Real, and DivX plugins)?

I don't know that. AFAIK the in-place support for the latter was added
much more recently.

And I (just for me) hate it. I want Opera to use _only_ what I give
it and not add multiple "other" locations. Just steam, I am in the
minority I am sure and will continue to "hide" (zip up) some
bothersome DLLs elsewhere on disk as needed. But this behavior ought
to be an _option_ I suggest.

Valid point, but as you say, you are a minority. Most people just
want something that works without having to touch the configuration.
This means that opera has to try to find everything that the user
might want to use and activate it by default. It makes sense to have
an option to turn off anything you don't want, though.

I don't know much about the prefs in the windows version. In the unix
version, you can specify which paths opera should look for plug-ins
in. Though I think it may magically add some paths in some cases...

Trying to keep ones customers happy is a great exercise in tightrope
