I have a SuSE 10 box which I use for testing my websites, which are deployed
on an internal webserver on my Windows workgroup.
Since upgrading to Opera 9.01, I'm unable to view any of my websites - when
I try to browse them, Opera just sits at Document: 0% with no indication as
to what the problem might be - no error messages etc.
There are no problems with Konqueror, Epiphany, FireFox, Netscape and
Mozilla on the same box. Also, Opera installed on a separate Windows machine
has no problem connecting either...
Is there some setting somewhere I need to enable, or can anyone please
suggest anything I can check?
Any assistance gratefully received.

Maybe there's a firewall or other security software on your machine that
blocks the new browser?

How do all the other browsers work, then...?
Although not very likely done for your browsers, it's perfectly
possible to lock down each specific application on your system.

If you're using a software firewall, it's possible that it detected a
change in the application executable, and is therefore blocking it (I've
seen quite a few cases with different firewalls where this happened without
any warning to the user).

Fair enough - I disabled the firewall temporarily - made no difference...
Do you have a proxy configured in Opera? Also renaming your profile folder
(with Opera closed) can help determine where the problem is.

Profile folder...?

Go to Help -> About Opera and check in which folder the bookmarks are
stored. That should be your profile folder. Rename that folder to
something different (like profile_old) while Opera is NOT running. Start
Opera and check if the problem persist. If it does, it's not your profile
and further investigation is needed. If it doesn't persist, you can use
the link at the end of my post to copy back some settings [1]. If you want
to copy a file back, close Opera, copy the file, and start Opera to check
if everything is functioning normally. Repeat this for every file you want
restored.

It is listed as /home/markrae/.opera

Did that - renamed it to .opera_old

Made no difference.
I have the same problem with Opera 9.01 on Mandriva 2006, but
interestingly only with 2 of the 4 computers connected to the router. I
also had this problem with Opera 8.54, but I managed to sort it then,
but I have forgotten how.
One important clue is that I can access websites if I type in a
numerical IP address, which suggests that the problem is with the name
resolution, for some reason Opera is not picking up the DNS settings.
The problem has certainly nothing to do with firewalls.
