Msimg32.dll alert

I don't want the alert:
"The system library Msimg32.dll is missing or too old, so certain
transparency effects will be slow and possibly not drawn correctly.
Obtaining the library from a Windows ME installation and placing it in
your Windows system directory will fix this."
... every time I start Opera.
How can I get rid of it? Don't even think about telling me to go get
msimg32.dll somewhere.
I only want to get rid of opera's stupid alert.

There are 51000 googlehits to read about msimg32.dll. That has nothing to
do with the fact that my msimg32.dll has been just fine thru' all versions
of opera I have ever used including 4 different betas of 9.5 until I
installed the current release version.
Something changed between the last beta I was using and the current v. and
the unnecessary alert was added which is apparently not configurable.
I guess I will have to go back to a beta.

There were problems in 9.5 on Win9x systems, caused by problems in the old
dll. Not just in the final build, it has been more work then in earlier
versions to make sure Opera 9.5 works properly on Win9x systems. If you
don't use areas in Opera were transparency is used, you might not notice.
And since it's 10 years now since those OS's were new, the developers
opted for the quick solution of not modifying their code to work around
these issues, but issue a warning. But of course it is annoying to get
that popup every time, so the next release will probably have a 'do not
show again' checkbox.

I'm currently back to 9.5 build 10034 and everything is fine about the
unwanted alert. Does anyone have any other recommendations besides this
build? Like a better build or some way to use the 9.5 release v. without
the alert?

The 'enable special effects' is operative in my build 10034.
The alert comes up in the release v. before opera ever runs. It isn't an
error when opera is doing something. It is an alert which opera has
chosen to run for no special reason except its 'internal' registry
checking configuration when it finds out my msimg32.dll is v 5.00.1693.1.

Thanks for your remarks, but I seriously doubt that permanently 'branding'
Opera's opening with a recommendation to Win98se users that they should
somehow hack their OS with an 'obscure' Me .dll which is no longer even in
MS's .dll troubleshooting is anything but a big fat mistake. I doubt that
it is even good advice for any purpose, OS hacking or otherwise.

I found a msimg32.dll ver 5.0.2218.1 at work. That made the
message go away.
I haven't done any further testing to determine if the version
update breaks anything.

I haven't been so lucky as to find one online. There aren't very many
Me/s around. The v. in W2K is different, as is XP's.

Thanks. That is a good .dll site. I had found a link to another site
with the .dll which is currently under construction, so that .dll dl was
'in the blind'. The two files, the Win ME one at your link above and the
other one are identical.
The current Opera 9.51 build 10074 still has the 'bad' alert which cannot
be disabled but which alert goes away with the ME 5.0.2218.1 .dll now in
the Win98se system folder.
