I haven't used Opera Mail recently - in the desktop program or
the web site - but it sounds as though when you deleted the account
information from Opera, part of the program didn't know that that
had been deleted, and showed it as though you hadn't deleted it.
But when you clicked on it, the program tried to use the data that
was deleted, and for that reason, it crashed. If you then couldn't
run Opera until you installed it again... that is quite bad.
Perhaps Opera the company would like you to report the bug, particularly
if you still have files from your broken Opera that they could examine.
Then they can stop it happening in another case.
The settings of Opera are mostly held in text files with names
such as "filename.ini". It's possible to correct problems
my manually making changes to these files - while Opera isn't
running. On the other hand, it's also possible to create
problems that way that are very difficult to solve - although
keeping a backup copy of a file when you change it, and
copying from the backup to the working file, should work -
again while Opera isn't running.
But maybe you know all of that already.
