Earlier this evening I had Opera (v10.01, Windows) running with some
other applications. One of these other apps crashed causing my
computer to hang.

I performed a hard reset of the machine (leaving it turned off for
enough time to cook and eat a meal), and now upon restarting I find
that Opera's lost a load of settings.

Most obvious from the outset:

- My home page
- Feeds menu / Mail panel
- My preference for having each tab's "X" as part of the menu
bar rather on the tab itself
- Other toolbar preferences (the Google search box is back,
for instance).

I'm guessing that one or more .ini files have become dislodged
somehow. Any advice on how best to recover my system to what it was
earlier this evening?

Cheers,
Lloyd

I noticed myself with prevoius versions (but did not have it yet with 10) that in some unpredictable circumstances, the operaprefs.ini in my \profile directory was erased and replaced by the default one.
That's why I always have a copy of operaprefs.ini in the directory, in order to restore it if needed.

Yeah, that looks like what has happened: my operaprefs.ini is entirely
blank.

A lesson learned, I suppose.

Thanks,
Lloyd

It is possible to corrupt that file, and maybe Opera detects corrupt
versions of the file and resets them to the default.
