As usual I've missed all the discussion!
Is there a migration guide which says which config files I can copy
from version 9.
Any pitfalls to watch out for.

Assuming you have backed everything up, is there a reason you would not
try to just do the upgrade?

The latter statement is correct. However, with a backup and screenshot
of v9, along with recording any changes the user made to Preferences
and opera:config settings, most of that can be overcome. I made the
switch with the original 10 alpha, so it's been awhile, but my
recollection is that the current skin can be copied over and chosen
under Tools > Appearance. Likewise, wand, keyboard, menu and
toolbar.ini's can be copied over or recreated without much difficulty.

If the goal is to start fresh, then you don't want to copy over config
files. Instead, you will want to track everything personal to your system,
and make a back-up of your system as well. Export out all the data you
want into an easily imported form, like email, news, addresses, bookmarks,
and the like. Once all these settings are recorded and tracked, you can
manually enter them all back and re-import the data without keeping the
potentially hairy and crufty config files around from version to version.
Otherwise, you risk keeping the same problems around anyways.
Is there a checklist of the files in version 9 which can be
copied to version 10?
