So, you're saying that Opera is slower than Firefox with *every single site
on the internet*?

It's a "feature" of Opera

It's one the new "features" Opera has added as new version is released.

Do you mean "Opera 12.01", or 12.00?
There doesn't appear to be a 12.01 out?

Firefox 13.0.1 evidently fixes Firefox's
problem working with the new Flash 11.3.

I wonder if they could have done something
there that interferes with Opera using the
same Flash plug-in. Particularly if you
are running both browsers at the same time.

Opera 12.00 has mostly performed well for me,
so far.

I am not using Opera's e-mail or newreader -
ju st the web browser.

What pages and what times are you
experiencing? Bearing in mind that if
I am in .uk and you are in .fr, web
sites may take us to different versions
of themselves.

Other things to consider: the web site
name resolution process;third-party
content; Opera Turbo; and, rebooting your
PC. That isn't a recommended cure in this
particular case, but many problems do go
away, when you do that.

I and others have commented about this on the developers' blog, but
it's definitely not all sites (x64). I'd say a sizable minority. There
are actually two problems: sites that take 60 seconds to load and sites
that don't complete loading but are operable. The latter issue has been
reported with quite a few of the later O12 builds (typically referred
to as NSL - never stops loading). The former seems to have arisen with
the last one or two RC builds (RC6, the last, became the release
verion).

I'm having a similar experience (WinXP) with both Opera 12 and Opera Next
12.01.

Some sites are very slow, while others don't render at all. No problem
with FF on the same sites.

It seems to be an old issue gone worse. I watch as the number of elements
loaded increases until either (n-1)/n or n elements, and then it sits with
a blank viewport...until I give up minutes later and close the tab.

When I have that happen, I often find that a Stop/Reload cycle will
break it loose. It often occurs with other browsers on the same site, as
well. In my case, I usually attribute it to using the MVPS hosts file,
where it's blocking something on the site that wants to check in with
the mothership.

Actually, I should have added that even if I try a Stop/Recycle, the
problem is often still experienced. That's when I give up. If the
recycling works, I'm happy.

It never occurred to me that the hosts file issue might be the culprit.
Good call. Time to experiment.
