Verified. So, Sanford, what are you going to do about it: scream as
usual about how bad Opera is, or report it to Amazon and as a bug to
Opera?

Search inside works here with "Mask as Firefox". Amazon is browser
sniffing.

It works fine in Opera. The biggest problem is that the following code
snippet is not included in the source when identifying as Opera:

--- Start code snippet ---
<script type="text/javascript">

var amznJQ = {
_a: [], _s: [], _d: [], _l: [], _o: [], _c: [], _cs: [],
addLogical: function() {
this._l.push(arguments)
},
addStyle: function() {
this._s.push(arguments)
},
declareAvailable: function() {
this._d.push(arguments)
},
available: function() {
this._a.push(arguments)
},
onReady: function() {
this._o.push(arguments)
},
onCompletion: function() {
this._c.push(arguments)
},
completedStage: function() {
this._cs.push(arguments)
},
strings: {},
chars: {
EOL: String.fromCharCode(0x0A),
SQUOTE: String.fromCharCode(0x27),
DQUOTE: String.fromCharCode(0x22),
BACKSLASH: String.fromCharCode(0x5C),
YEN: String.fromCharCode(0xA5)
}
}

</script>
--- End code snippet

Of course this might not be the only thing that is missing, I didn't
bother to try and get to the bottom of this since it's clearly amazons
fault.

I sent amazon an email complaining. More people should
complain!

After complaining to amazon, they send me an email saying
stupid things. I respond. It is a fight. I suggest more
fight them. Power to the people!

Their reply:

Hello from Amazon.com.

We'll consider your feedback as we plan further
improvements. I will forward your comments and feedback to
the appropriate department for consideration to the
concerned technical department.

Please note that customer service is not in a position to
make changes to website features or functions. Likewise, we
cannot make promises that other departments will make
changes at our request. The most we can do is to be sure
that your comments are forwarded to those who have these
responsibilities. Please let me assure you that I have done
so.

Customer feedback like yours really helps us continue to
improve our store and provide better service to our
customers. Thanks for taking time to offer us your thoughts.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope to see you again
at Amazon.com.

It almost always pays to file a bug report with Opera, also letting them
know that you wrote Amazon and what they said.

Btw, Amazon owners are people, too, and they have too much power.

Why is that stupid? Seems clear enough to me.

Where you been all this time, Sanford; i.e., how about "power" to
yourself)?

Help > Support > Reporting Bugs > Bug Report Wizard. Usually the kind
of problem is Other.

For bookmarking purposes: https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/

If you could either use the userjs (second link in my signature) or
forward the email you get after filing to the address in my signature it
would help keep the Unofficial bug tracker (first link in my signature) up
to date. No obligation, but it would be appreciated.

That doesn't sound bad at all.

When I wrote Amazon in 2005 to make suggestions concerning
missing alt-texts (I was on dialup back then), attribute
typos (",alt=..."), invisible text in form fields and
submit buttons and a few more things, I received the
following response:

I am sorry you encountered problems while using our
web site. Here are some suggestions that usually help:

1) Try reloading. [...]
2) Clear your cache. [...]
3) Clear your cookies. [...]
4) Try our standard server. [...]

If none of these suggestions solves the problem, please
click the link below to send us a detailed description
of the error [...]

So, I sent the same pain-stakingly detailed report and
received another reply:

I'm very sorry to hear about the difficulty you are
experiencing on our web site. We do not have any
problems on our end that would be causing the effects
you describe.

I would suggest clicking the "Help" link at the top
of your browser window (above the browser commands)
for specific trouble-shooting tips. If that does
not solve the problem, you may need to contact your
Internet service provider directly.

I am sorry that we are unable to provide any further
assistance. I hope you are able to resolve this
situation soon. We look forward to your next visit
to Amazon.com.

Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question:

If yes, click here: [...]
If not, click here: [...]

When I did click the no-link a few weeks later (I was
really busy), I received the following:

Sorry, but you've reached a page which is no longer
current. Perhaps you arrived here by clicking on an
expired link in your e-mail.

If you would like to contact us, our customer service
department will be happy to assist you.

Sure they will. No problem on their end, my ass.

Unfortunately, I'm see this problem with all the books I've checked.

I have reported this problem just like people taking part in discussion in
this
thread, and mentioned about a need for having this option working on
"Wishlist"
Opera group.
