Anyone else using Opera 10 on Windows (Opera v10.00 build 1750 on Win2kPro
SP4, in my case) struggling to use Google Street View of late?

Since approximately the start of October (or, in other words: "for about a
week or so, ish") instead of seeing the street view images I just get a
big area of black.

I noticed on Friday using a different computer (Windows XP machine with
firefox) that clicking on the arrows displayed along the roads of google
street view, a "blurring" animation is performed on the image before
updating with one further along the street. Does this change coincide with
my problems occurring (indicating that Google have broken the street view
for my computer), or this a difference between firefox and opera (or
Windows XP and Windows 2000)?

Any response appreciated, thanks.

No, it works perfectly here.

When I first load Street View, the area that displays the 3D image is
black for a second before it appears. It sounds like your Opera is
stalling at that point, but since it's Flash that's loading and displaying
the images, I can't see anything in Opera that may be causing it.

Have you tried emptying your cache in Opera, and Flash's 'cache' using a
clean-up tool such as C-Cleaner, just incase it's a glitch?

The animated movement has been there for a while now. Certainly more than
a week.

Could you have a firewall filtering out certain types of content for Opera
but not Firefox? As I say, Street View works perfectly here in Opera 10 on
Windows XP.

And does it display black for every area you try viewing?

I see.

Curious..

I haven't. I shall look into doing that, thanks!

I don't frequently use Street View, and only noticed both the animation
and the blackness this past week or so.

The only things in common that the two machines have is that they're both
in the UK and that I've had occasion to sit in front of each within the
past week. The machine I have Opera on is my home computer.

I've yet to find anywhere that doesn't display black.

I'll try the C-Cleaner option to see if that makes any difference.

Clearing the cache is a good first step with these kinds of problems.

If you use CCleaner, be sure to take a look at the advanced options for
exclusions in its cleaning to see if any apply to your needs (e.g., I
uncheck MS Word, so that the list of recently opened documents doesn't
get CCleaned out). If you do make any changes, also check the save .ini
files box. CCleaner is one of those rare applications that does not
save or offer to save settings with installation of each update.

You guys should update to the latest flash player.

Make sure to do it in opera.

Just google "install flash player" or http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Thanks for this thread. To recap:

- I bought this laptop a couple of weeks ago
- Google street view was working for me up till a few days ago (Opera
10 on Vista)
- then, one day it turned black
- restarting Opera did not help
- Google street view however worked in IE

Solution (as suggested above):

- Tools->Preferences->History->Disk Cache: click empty now OR
- Tools->Preferences->History->Disk Cache: set to "Off" (I bet this
will prevent the blackness problem from recurring)
- restart Opera
- tada! street view works again

The version of the flash player does not seem to play a role, as I
verified that I had the latest flash player installed.
