Those formats used to play for me, and WMAs still do. When I go onto the
Advanced tab of the preferences, move down to the 'Downloads' settings and
double-click the MIME Type entry for WMA files, it's set to 'Use plug-in',
with 'Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Library Link' selected as the
plug-in.
For MP3s, I had the same settings but used Quicktime instead. However,
I've just checked and suddenly it's disappeared from the list of available
plug-ins. Trying to open an MP3 in any version of Opera now triggers the
'Save as' dialogue rather than playing it. The only things I can think
that caused this was when I ran Apple's auto update last week and updated
Quicktime, or when I ran a registry cleaner which might have deleted
something important.

Opera doesn't provides codecs.
You should install something like KliteMegaCodec, and you'll run all kind of videos, including in WMP.

Well I removed Quicktime, downloaded it again and re-installed, and now
Opera plays MP3s again.

You might try to install Netscape API compatible plugins when installing
VideoLAN.org or Apple QuickTime
go into advanced install way and check both to install plugins and that
plugins would lay mp3 and wma
