In SeaMonkey Suite and other Mozilla-based browsers, the
following are equivalent:

Command-+
Command-Shift-+

and both mean zoom larger. In Opera, Command-Shift-+ zooms
larger, but Command-+ does nothing. It would be very nice if it
were possible to use Command-+ without having to hold down the
Shift key. This is both for compatibility with Moz-based browsers
and to make it easier to use this chord in Opera (i.e., a
2-finger chord is easier than a 3-finger chord!).

Thank you,
Nancy

All keyboard shortcuts can manually be modified in Opera's

I know that a user can customize the heck out of Opera, and
that's one of the reasons I like it, but what I was sugggesting
is that Command-+ and Command-Shift-+ be equivalent BY DEFAULT.

I'm simply making a usability suggestion that AFAICT would not
hurt and would make it easier for people to switch to Opera.

I'm a Mac nOOb, so forgive a curious question: on Win32 and Linux
environments you can zoom in and out by simply hitting + and - (both on
num-pad / text-pad). num-pad x resets view to 100%. Doesn't this work on
Mac?

Yes, plain old + and - do work on a Mac. I'll try to be more
clear about what I was suggesting. On my Mac,the Opera View >
Zoom menu looks like this:

50%
80%
90%
----
100%
----
120%
150%
200%
----
-100% CMD-
+100% CMD+
-10%
+10%

And in SeaMonkey Suite, the View > Text Zoom includes this:

Smaller CMD-
Larger CMD+

In SeaMonkey Suite (and Mozilla Suite and Firefox), I do not need
to hold down the SHIFT key to invoke CMD+, I only need to hold
down 2 keys:

CMD
+/=

The +/= key is being interpreted as '=' when the SHIFT key is not
pressed, but it works anyway in the Moz-based browsers. My
request was that Opera also interpret the unSHIFTed +/- key for
the CMD+ chord. I have been regularly using Opera since it became
free/gratis (2005 Sept 20) and it was only yesterday that I
finally figured out that I needed to hold down the SHIFT key in
order to use CMD+. All this time I thought it was a bug in Opera
and that it would eventually be fixed. Now I understand that it
is by design and my suggestion is that the Opera Team consider
making CMD+ work the way it does in the Moz-based browsers.

I hope this makes sense now!

It sound more like a keybord layout problem than an Opera problem. If Moz
Browsers interpret = as + this seems to be a bug.

My guess is that it was a usability decision on the part of the
Moz Team. It is a logical (to a user) to be able to use

CMD-key1
CMD-key2

to mean smaller and bigger. It is not logical (to a user) to have
to do

CMD-key1
CMD-SHIFT-key2

to mean smaller and bigger.

Anyways, I'm going to drop this now. And customize my personal
Opera keys and forget about general usability issues (at least
for now :-)).

So, actually, there is a shortcut "Cmd =" in Mozila, and they advertise it
in the UI as "Cmd +"?

As enlarging with 100% is a rare action for me, I don't find this very
interesting for Opera's "Cmd +". But I use "+" a lot, and also have a US
keyboard, I did change my keyboard shortcuts so I can simply press "=" to
zoom in. It is even easier to press the "+" on the numpad, but that's
missing on my laptop.
