I notice that in the same way that a background tab now gets a blue dot on
it when it has changed or wants attention, the mail panel selector button
gets a red dot when you have new mail but are currently looking at another
panel:

Wouldn't it be better if these dots were the same colour? Different
colours imply there's some kind of difference, but really they mean pretty
much the same thing.

Or perhaps even have the mail button dot usually blue unless any of the
awaiting messages are marked as urgent, in which case make it red? If so,
what about doing the same thing for page tabs - A blue dot for a
background page that has simply loaded or refreshed; a red one for when a
modal dialogue's waiting for you or an HTTP error has occured.
